We hope that everyone has had a lovely summer, and that you feel recharged and ready to get back to work! The MiC team is currently planning for the upcoming academic year, and we are very much looking forward to seeing you (mostly) online this fall. We would like to warmly welcome all of our new students commencing this year, and to our now second year students: welcome back!

Dear All,
After what has been a trying semester, the Master in Communication teachers want to wish you a happy, peaceful and restful summer – hopefully with your loved ones.
In Autumn, we will return to a situation where digital teaching will remain prominent in our teaching and learning activities, though this will be supplemented by some on-campus activities too. Course-responsibles will communicate these as relevant to particular courses in due course. Ben will be in touch to discuss programme-level events that will likewise be arranged on-campus. For more detail on these things, we alert you to his post on Canvas earlier in the week (https://canvas.gu.se/courses/28745/discussion_topics/110285). We also kindly ask those who have not completed the very short survey referred to there to do so. This will help us significantly in our planning for the autumn semester.
Where previously you had communicated with Alice in programme-director role, please now remember to contact Ben as the new programme director ([email protected]).
We also send our best wishes to those who will soon join us as our first-year students of the programme. We look forward to meeting you after the summer. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to the programme, and working with you over the next two years.
All the best from the MiC teaching team

Covid-19 is a dominating topic in the news, in our social media feeds and in many of our interpersonal conversations. It has a profound impact on our everyday life – it changes the way we study, work, engage with our families and friends. In this scholarly discussion in cooperation with the Institute of Media and Communication Science at the German Technische Universität Ilmenau as well as the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication (JMG) at the University of Gothenburg, Andreas Schwarz and Bengt Johansson explore Covid-19 from the perspective of crisis communication research. They reflect on the particular challenges of pandemics, the special nature of Covid-19, ongoing research as well the role of scholars in mitigating this pandemic.

The CAP Talks is a guest lecture series that gives you a little bit of an insight into how organizational communication - we discuss from an academic perspective in the (digital) classroom - looks like in practice. In this edition of the CAP Talks we take you into the world of fitness and health and introduce you to Marcus Alexandersson from Zalex Health.
As a personal trainer, group fitness instructor and massage therapist, Marcus shares how he manages to build trust with individual clients as well as to create connections in a group training setting. Moreover, this CAP Talk shines a light on the role of body image in the fitness industry and how we can overcome stereotypes and approach fitness as well as (both physical and mental) health from a more holistic perspective.

Did you know that May 4 is not only Star Wars Day, but also Anti-Bullying Day?
We do hope you thrive in the intercultural learning environment within the programme Master in Communication.
However, we do know that bullying, mobbing and harassment can occur in all kinds of study and work environments. If you ever experience instances of discrimination, bullying or harassment, please contact our study counselor ([email protected]) – you are also welcome to talk to the Göta student union, your programme coordinator and/or teacher.
You can find more information on this topic on the student portal: https://studentportal.gu.se/english/study-environment-and-rules/equality.

Academic knowledge, including theoretical background and current state of research in the field of communication, is essential to our master's programme.
But we also believe that it is also important to sometimes move the focus out of academia, to test how the concepts and theories that we study, actually manifest in practice.
We try to bridge to practice in many ways, and one of them is by inviting professionals as guest lecturers, to help us complement our academic education with their experience.
In the current situation there is no physical classroom to bring guest lecturers to, so we decided to go to them instead, and film our conversations in what we have called, "The CAP talks".
For these interviews, part of our course "Communication Among Professionals" we have invited professionals from different fields to share with us their unique perspectives on topics of organizational communication.
In the first CAP talk, we have a conversation about identity and workplace relations with Waldean Nelson, who works as a dancer at the Göteborgs Operan dance company.
Our next CAP Talk will take you into the world of health and fitness, but also address aspects of diversity and mobbing at the workplace – stay tuned for more information on the CAP Talks.
