Six months preparations and eager wait to the Intent Based Leadership Seminar (IBL) with L. David Marquet and Jenni Jepsen at Donsö Konferens was conducted yesterday.

There were participants from all different areas from the maritime industry but also from construction, production, real estate and etc.

The IBL concept and the outcome of David's command of Santa Fee which resulted in the leadership bestseller book "Turn the Ship Around" was presented during the seminar.

David also presented publicly for the first time his IBL Transcript Analyzer, a brilliant tool to measure performance, proactivity and balance in the team.Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB will assist in to further develop this tool in collaboration with David and Jenni...and You will hear more of the progress of this development. It's a tool that can be used in many industries, board meetings etc to develop and increase the proactivity and subsequently create a more resilient organisation and team.

The seminar ended with panel questions where also Hans Hederstrom joined.

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB in cooperation with Anna Frost was given the task to plan and be moderators at Furetank annual Conference which was named "All Hands Forward".

The conference was held at Donsö Konferens and the participants were staying at Kusthotellet Styrsö which included morning training, late swimming in the 38 degrees outdoor pool, food and beverages and team building discussions.

This years Furetank conference was planned and conducted with a different objective then previous conferences. The aim was to include the onboard crew and shore staff with various tasks and questions which the last day resulted in very inspiring presentations of the dedicated groups with ideas, proposals with regards to preset queries to enhance Furetank operation even further. The preset queries were based upon unanimous surveys from all employees at Furetank, both from shore and ship. The queries concerned questions referring to Leadership, Appraisals, Psychological Safety and similar.

Thank You Yvonne Höglund, Jonas Gunnarsson and Josefine Ljungström for the collaboration and teamwork during the planning of this conference.

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB was commissioned to plan and conduct the Annual Emergency Exercise for Donsötank.

The objective of the drill was to practice and validate onboard and shore organisation Emergency Procedures and readiness.

The drill included a complete bridge team from Donsötank including Pilot and Donsötank shore crisis team.

DMTC was acting MRCC, VTS, Coastguard, Port Authorities, Tugs and etc. The scenario which was planned previous week was unknown for all involved except the DMTC team.

The exercise including preparations and debriefing lasted for 4 hours. The entire drill was recorded which was used during the debriefing.

A report will be compiled and Donsötank will also have all recordings available as reference.

Very exciting and interesting day for all parties!

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB was today honoured by representatives from the Copenhagen Agreement.

The agreement concern a collaboration between all Nordic countries regarding protection of the marine environment, oil spill control and other harmful substances.

There were representatives from Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Faroe Islands.

The visit was initiated by Anette Marting, Chairman Copenhagen Agreement. Very important environmental collaboration beyond national borders.

The visit included also a presentation of DMTC and the history of the Shipping Industry of Donsö by Lars Höglund.

Donsö had this week a very exciting and rewarding visit by various international magazines. The press tour was arranged by Christina Dupré Roos and Edee Carey from BLUE-C based in Oslo.

The press tour had meetings including presentations at various Shipping Companies based at Donsö (TERNTANK, Furetank, Donsötank and Sirius Shipping AB).

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB was also part of the press tour where we got the opportunity to present DMTC and our visions and objectives - to be a resource for Shipping Sweden and beyond.

We finished the day with mingle and dinner at Kusthotellet Styrsö where Hotel Director Jason Hill introduced the spa hotel. Great day and fantastic evening with many interesting discussions.

Company Specific Training and Courses:

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB have collaborations with a number of Shipping Companies to whom we have produced and conducted various Company Specific Courses and Trainings, including but not limited to, Bridge Resource Management, Ship Handling, Promotion Development and Management & Leadership.

DMTC has in this collaboration with concerned Shipping Companies (Destination Gotland, Rederi AB Älvtank, Donsötank, Lakeway Link, Furetank, Thun Tankers), Wärtsilä Marine and KASI GROUP, developed company specific vessels to provide an optimised and effective platform to achieve the training objectives and supporting also Port Studies and Risk Assessments.

Seminar May 12 at Donsö Konferens:

I have for about 10 years read, followed and used David Marquet’s material both practically during my time as Captain and I incorporated also very early the Intent Based Leadership philosophy in the Resource Management and Leadership courses at Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB.

I have myself seen and experienced the difference within the team when working with the IBL (Intent Based Leadership) and how the team become more proactive, included and taking initiatives which is proof of that there is a high psychological safety. This is a vital part to create barriers for incidents and subsequently create a resilient team and organisation regardless of industry!

L. David Marquet is a former US Navy Nuclear Submarine Commander and founder of IBL and work together with Jenni Jepsen who visited DMTC last autumn. We agreed then that David and Jenni should come to Donsö & DMTC to introduce IBL.

David & Jenni are working with management teams from companies such as Siemens, Hitachi, BP and many more. David is also the author of ”Turn the ship around” (Wall Street Journal Bestseller) and ”Distancing” where IBL is further explained and elaborated.

David is a Leadership Keynote speaker at Seminars worldwide and we are very excited and proud of that him and Jenni will take the time to visit Donsö. The IBL Seminar is planned for 12 May at Donsö Konferens

Donsö Maritime Training Centre AB had yesterday a very rewarding visit by Wärtsilä (Wärtsilä Voyage - Maritime Simulators) Management Team America - Neil Bennett, Diego Leivas and Nikita Kadrov and Management Team Sweden - Johan Ekvall, Ola Lundqvist and Johnny Isdahl.

Henrik Andersson from Gussix Marine who has long experience and knowledge of the Wärtsilä simulators was also present.

It was a very constructive day where we among other things discussed next generation Wärtsilä simulator NTPRO 7. We are very excited and looking forward to the upgrade.
