Sudan Journal of Medical Sciences is a project of the Continuous Medical Education program at the Faculty of Medicine - Omdurman Islamic University. Sudan JMS is a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal which publishes four issues per year. This is the first issue of the Sudan JMS in 2026.

Food allergy (FA) patterns vary significantly across regions, ages, and dietary habits. Our latest descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in Khartoum provides a foundational look at IgE sensitization among 106 Sudanese adults and children.
🔴 Key Findings:
- Top Allergens: Nut mix (67%), Tomato (56%), and Peanut (50%) showed the highest rates of sensitization.
- Age Matters: Children were significantly more sensitized to egg yolk and chocolate, while adults showed higher sensitivity to orange.
- Gender Insights: Sensitization was generally equal across genders, with the notable exception of nut mix, which was significantly higher in males (P = 0.046).

Special Issue of the Sudan Journal of Medical Sciences (SJMS): Traditional Medicine in Sudan ✨
يسرّ هيئة تحرير مجلة السودان للعلوم الطبية (SJMS) أن تعلن عن صدور العدد الخاص (المجلد 20، العدد 3)، والذي يركّز على الطب التقليدي في السودان.
يوثّق هذا العدد المميز ويُقيّم نقديًا التراث الحي للممارسات العلاجية في السودان بما يشمل الصيدلة العشبية، والممارسات الروحية والطقسية، والعلاجات اليدوية.
من خلال دراسات تاريخية، ومسوح إثنوبوتانية، ورؤى سريرية، يستكشف العدد سُبل الدمج المبني على الأدلة بين الطب التقليدي والرعاية الصحية المعاصرة، بما في ذلك الجوانب المتعلقة بالسلامة والجودة والأطر التنظيمية، وأولويات البحث في النباتات الطبية والمركبات النشطة حيويًا، إضافة إلى الأخلاقيات، وحقوق الملكية الفكرية، وحماية المعارف التقليدية.
كما يبرز العدد نماذج التعاون بين المعالجين الشعبيين والأطباء وصنّاع القرار، مسلطًا الضوء على مرونة الممارسات المجتمعية ومنطقها الثقافي وأهميتها في المناطق محدودة الوصول إلى الخدمات الطبية الحيوية.

Diabetic retinopathy is the most common cause of vision loss in diabetics, its early detection and treatment greatly reduces the risk of blindness.
A cross-sectional study using data from Jabir Abu Eliz Diabetes Health Center in Khartoum reveals a 39.8% prevalence of NPDR among individuals with type 2 diabetes.
