Nursery rhymes effectively support literacy development, particularly phonological awareness skills through rhyme, alliteration, syllables and tapping to the beat.

The aim of learning phonics is to start reading, and while there's no "best sequence" to teach phonics, it makes you wonder which letter to begin with first. You can start with the most commonly occurring letters of the alphabet, like s, a, t or m, or even better, start with the first letter of your child's name. We often introduce the first letter of the child's name in the Montessori environment, which helps them begin to recognise their names.
