Nile Messengers
Nile Messengers page is the one of the out put (action plan) in MINIA Exchange visit (october 20-24-2011)
the primary objective of the Nile messengers network is to influnce public opinion towards understanding the cost of the nile cooperation through discussion of common interests and differences among the Eastern nile countries . Through focusing on the livelihood of the local communities depending on the Nile resources.
Each of the candidates who will propose to be a Nile messenger will be required to write 1-2 pages on the following:
a) his/her views on the Nile basin cooperation in brief and
b) some ideas on how can the youth play an effective role to strengthen the relationship among the nile basin countries
c) provide evidence on an incident where he /she was able to change the counter part opinion or win an argument .
SNDF will conduct a national competition to select Nile Messengers. Every one interested in joining us, please look at the below Criteria for selection:
The Nile messengers are expected to be from the youth between the age of 18 - 30 with the following characteristic and skills
• Highly motivated and ambitious character
• Active participation in social /community issues in their countries/ localities
• Strong networking and communication skills
• Demonstrated experience in convincing others through well articulated arguments
• Ability to mobilize large number of stakeholders especially from their peers and relatives
• Good knowledge of Nile basin portfolio
• Scientific background and experience in science and water issues is an asset. As an example students from the colleges of Science or Engineering
• Ability to travel abroad and participate in events in different Nile basin countries
• Good knowledge of speaking and writing of English language
The Minia exchange visit was conducted from 20 -24 October 2011 to allow participant from the Eastern Nile countries to get to know each other more through focusing on the culture, social and economic aspects. The five days interaction among the participants had resulted in producing an action plan with the following outputs:
• NBD youth Nile messengers network established
• EN common culture identified and promoted
• NB dialogue and common understanding of scientific information enhanced
• Role of NBD on evidence based information is enhanced
• EN cooperation is promoted
Objective
The objective of the Nile messengers is to promote Nile Basin cooperation through raising the public awareness on the existing common aspects among the Nile basin countries that will support identification of a concrete benefit sharing mechanism.
Nile messengers mandate
The Nile messengers are expected to fulfill the following tasks:
• Highlight the importance of Nile cooperation among their peers at the national level
• Promote for ethical, cultural and social integration among the Nile basin countries
• Exchange relevant information on strengthening the Nile basin countries relationship at the bilateral, sub regional and regional level
• Participate in the different Nile basin events that will be held in Nile basin countries
• Collect myths, songs and Folklores on the importance of the Nile in their respective countries
• Communicate on a day to day basis with other Nile messengers selced in other nile Basin countries as to strengthen the Nile messengers network
