1- complication of milk fever which depending on the duration of recumbency , environmental circumstances & the physical size of the animal

2- Dystocia due to an oversized calf may result in extensive edema of the pelvic tissues and v***a , and failure of the cow to stand following parturition

1- about 30% of cows treated for milk fever will not stand for up to 24 h following treatment . Those which are unable to stand after 24 h and after two treatments are classified as downers

2- They are usually bright and alert and the cow eats and drinks moderately well . The temperature is normal and the heart rate may be normal or elevated to 80- 100 bpm

3- Defecation and urination are normal but proteinuria is common and if marked may indicate extensive muscle damage

4- some affetcted cows may make no effort to stand . Others will make frequent attempts to stand but unable . Are frog leg posture

5- in severe cases . The urine may be brown and turbid because of severe myoglobinuria

3- the Calcium . Phosphorous . Magnesium . And glucose levels of the blood are with in the normal range
4- The CPK and AST levels are usually markedly elevated

1- The prognosis of a downer cow depends on the cause of the recumbency and duration
2- Euthanasia should be recommended because of unfavorable response to treatment and economic looses
3- Fluid and electolyte therapy as well as tonics
4- Analgesic and dexamethazone
5- good bedding and cow-lifting devices have been used (body slings )

⏩ Vitamin A = Anti-infectious vitamin
⏩ Vitamin D = Anti-Rachitic factor
⏩ Vitamin E = Anti-Sterility factor
⏩ Vitamin C = Anti ascorbic factor or Anti stress vitamin
⏩ Thiamine = Anti neuritic or Anti beri-beri factor
⏩ Niacin = Anti-Pellagra- factor
⏩ Vitamin B12 = Anti pernicious, Anaemia factor
⏩ Vitamin K1 = Phylloquinone
⏩ Vitamin K2 = Menaquinone
⏩ Vitamin K3 = Menadione(water soluble)
⏭ Tupted down feathers = Zinc deficiency
⏭ Cloubed down feathers = Riboflavin deficiency
