Please join us in congratulating Prof. Wolfgang Heidrich from VCC, for receiving the Siggraph Computer Graphics Achievement Award this year, for his fundamental contributions to the development and analysis of computational imaging and display systems.
Professor Heidrich's research work encompasses groundbreaking advancements in computational photography and display, an emerging research area within visual computing, which combines methods from computer graphics, machine vision, imaging, inverse methods, optics and perception to develop new sensing and display technologies. His contributions in High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging, computational photography, and display systems have had a profound impact on the field, enabling new possibilities in visual representation and user experience in various display applications.

The ACM Siggraph is one of the leading conference/organization in computer graphics. Siggraph Computer Graphics Achievement Award is the most prestigious award in Computer Graphics research area (together with Steven Anson C***s Award).
This is a significant achievement for Prof.Wolfgang as well as for VCC and KAUST.

Prof. Mohamed Elhoseiny and his team (Computer Vision, CAIR) from VCC, were featured in Fast Company Middle East for their MiniGPT-4, an open-sourced model performing complex vision-language tasks.

Prof. Elhoseiny's research work focuses on developing innovative algorithms and models to advance the understanding and application of visual perception by machines. With a diverse research portfolio, he has made significant contributions to several areas of computer vision, including image recognition, object detection, and video understanding. One of his notable research interests lies in the intersection of computer vision and natural language processing (NLP). He has explored novel techniques for bridging the gap between visual and textual data, enabling machines to understand and generate descriptions of images and videos.
His work in this area has contributed to advancing the fields of image captioning, visual question answering, and multimodal learning. His contributions have significantly advanced the field and continue to inspire and shape the future of computer vision research in Saudi Arabia and globally.

We extend our congratulations to Mengmeng Xu, also known as Frost, for successfully completing his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering under the guidance of Professor Bernard Ghanem.

Frost's research centers around computer vision and video understanding.

Frost's remarkable accomplishments include publishing influential academic papers, acquiring valuable industry experience through internships at Samsung, Amazon, and Meta, and demonstrating his problem-solving abilities by succeeding in numerous international challenges.

Falconviz, a VCC (Visual Computing Center) enabled startup company, provides end-to-end asset and process digitization services utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and related equipment.

It is a unique company that uses its manufactured drones as tools to capture images which are then fed through software developed in VCC converting them to 3D digital models.
