My article, โ€œThe Business Case for Sustainability: Evidence on How ESG Integration Drives Financial Performance in a Pragmatic 2026 Environment,โ€ has been published in Social Science Review Archives.

This research synthesises findings from more than 1,200 empirical studies together with original analysis of 5,400 publicly listed companies across 45 countries to address a question of growing importance for boardrooms and capital markets:

Does ESG integration create measurable financial value?
The evidence indicates that it does, with important qualifications.

Key findings include:

โ€ข Firms with stronger ESG integration achieve risk adjusted return premiums of approximately 1.2 to 3.8 percent annually
โ€ข ESG performance is associated with a lower cost of capital, reduced volatility, and enhanced operational resilience
โ€ข Financial value is concentrated in material and sector specific ESG factors rather than broad ESG scoring
โ€ข The ESG performance relationship remains robust despite the ESG backlash observed between 2022 and 2025, although it has become more selective and disciplined

The central implication is pragmatic rather than ideological:

Sustainability creates financial value when it is embedded within risk management, capital allocation, and competitive strategy, not when it is treated primarily as branding.

For corporate leaders, investors, and policymakers, the conclusion is clear.
The business case for sustainability is now empirically grounded, financially measurable, and strategically actionable.

Leaving a place where youโ€™ve built real connections is tough.
Saying goodbye to amazing people โ€” even tougher.

At my farewell, I told my colleagues something from the heart:
