Hajj and Umrah are among the greatest acts of worship in Islam. These sacred journeys are not only spiritual experiences but also a profound opportunity for Muslims to strengthen their connection with Allah. According to the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, performing Hajj and Umrah with sincerity, patience, and proper preparation is essential for every Muslim who has the ability to undertake this blessed journey.
However, many families unknowingly make a serious mistake: sending elderly parents or women alone for Hajj or Umrah without proper support, assistance, or companionship. In this video, I share three real incidents that highlight the difficulties elderly pilgrims and women can face during Hajj and Umrah if they travel alone.
These true stories are based on real experiences during the pilgrimage, showing how even educated and experienced individuals can face serious challenges when they are alone in such a physically demanding environment.
Hajj and Umrah involve intense physical activity, long walking distances, large crowds, and extreme weather conditions. For elderly pilgrims especially, the journey can become very difficult without assistance. Many older people require wheelchairs, physical support, medical attention, or guidance to complete the rituals comfortably and safely.
During the pilgrimage, situations may arise where elderly pilgrims become weak due to exhaustion, dehydration, illness, or stress. Even a well-educated and capable person can become confused or overwhelmed when navigating the massive crowds of millions of pilgrims.
In one of the incidents mentioned in this video, three women experienced a sudden medical emergency in Muzdalifah. Their health condition became critical, with severe weakness and vomiting. In such situations, having a trusted family member or companion present becomes extremely important.
Another important issue discussed in this video is the Islamic guidance regarding women traveling without a mahram. According to authentic hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ advised that a woman should not travel long distances without a mahram (a close male guardian such as a husband, father, brother, or son). Following the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ helps ensure safety, dignity, and proper care during travel.
Islam emphasizes wisdom and responsibility when performing acts of worship. While Hajj and Umrah hold immense spiritual value and reward, proper preparation and care for family members—especially elderly parents and women—should never be ignored.
If you are planning Hajj or Umrah for yourself, your parents, or your family members, this video serves as an important reminder to prioritize safety, companionship, and proper planning. Sending elderly individuals or women alone without assistance can expose them to unnecessary hardship and trials during this sacred journey.
This message is relevant for Muslims around the world who travel for Hajj and Umrah every year from countries such as the United States (USA), United Kingdom (UK), Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland, Portugal, Austria, Finland, Poland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan, and many other countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Oceania.
Millions of Muslims travel to the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah every year to perform Hajj and Umrah. With such a large gathering of pilgrims from different cultures, languages, and backgrounds, it becomes even more important to ensure that elderly pilgrims and women are not left alone without support.
By sharing these real incidents and reminders based on Islamic teachings, the goal of this video is to raise awareness, encourage responsibility, and help families make better decisions when preparing for Hajj or Umrah.
May Allah grant every Muslim the opportunity to perform Hajj and Umrah in the best possible way, and may He allow us to follow the teachings of the Qur’an and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in all aspects of our lives.
If this message is beneficial, please share it with your family, friends, and community members so that more people can learn about the importance of proper preparation and care when sending loved ones for Hajj or Umrah.
