7/27/26 – Trench Rescue Response

Yesterday, the Oxford Fire Department was dispatched to Anderson Road for a report of a man pinned by dirt in a trench.

Upon arrival, crews found a utility worker who was partially buried inside the trench. Engine 4, Truck 4, and Rescue 3 immediately began rescue operations to safely extricate the victim.

After approximately 40 minutes of coordinated rescue efforts, the patient was successfully removed from the trench and airlifted to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo for treatment.

The Oxford Fire Department would like to thank Oxford MS Police Department, Hospital Wing 7 - Oxford, MS and Priority Ambulance of Oxford for their assistance during this incident. We appreciate the teamwork and professionalism displayed by all agencies involved.

When disaster strikes, we answer the call. Members of USA-01 are en route to Venezuela following the devastating earthquakes, deploying 79 Urban Search and Rescue personnel, six K9 teams, and more than 70,000 pounds of specialized rescue and medical equipment. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Urban Search and Rescue ( ) Florida Task Force 1 ( ) has been officially activated by the U.S. Department of State as a response team to assist with search and rescue efforts following the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela.

From the moment we learned of this tragedy, our team has remained on standby, ready to respond. Many in our community have family, friends, and loved ones in Venezuela, making this mission especially meaningful. We deploy with one purpose: to provide hope and help those affected during this difficult time.

The task force consists of an 80-member Type I Urban Search and Rescue team, including six canine teams, to support ongoing search operations.

The highly specialized team includes experts across 19 functional areas, including command and control, technical search, structural assessment and stabilization, planning and technical information, advanced medical care, hazardous materials mitigation, tactical communications, logistics, safety, and technical rescue.
