The Sabbath is a day of rest that comes every week (it begins on Friday evening and ends on Saturday evening). It is a rest established by God. (Petit Larousse (1980), p. 822)

The Sabbath is an everlasting sign between God and His people (Exodus 31:17).

The Sabbath is the seventh day (Genesis 2:1; Exodus 31:15; Luke 23:54–56; 24:1; and other passages).

The Sabbath is a day of rest (Exodus 20:8; 31:15).

The Sabbath is an unchangeable covenant (Exodus 31:16).

The Sabbath does not belong only to the Jews, it is for all people (Isaiah 56:6; Mark 2:27–28). That is why in Deuteronomy 5:3 we are told:
“It was not with our fathers that the LORD made this covenant, but with us, all of us who are alive here today.”

Jesus and His apostles kept the Sabbath. This is confirmed by many scriptures:
“He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom…” (Luke 4:16).

When Jesus spoke about the end-time troubles, He said:
“Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.” (Matthew 24:20).

The apostles also kept it: (Acts 16:13; 13:14; 17:1–2).
“On the Sabbath almost the whole city gathered to hear the word of the Lord.” (Acts 13:44).

“The Sabbath and the family were both instituted in the Garden of Eden. In God’s plan, the two are inseparable. It is a sign of the power that created and redeemed. It shows us that God is the source of knowledge and life, and it also shows us the origin of human dignity.”

➖The Catholic Church says:
Among the Jews, the day of the Lord was the Sabbath. The Catholic Church established Sunday, because it was already the feast day of the Romans, who worshiped the sun (Sunday).

When was this done? Why was it done? On what basis?

Between 321 and 364, the plan to blend the Sabbath (Saturday) with Sunday was put in place.
This was done by Pope Sylvester under the reign of Emperor Constantine.

Later, between 424 and 476, Sunday observance became a law supported by both the State and the Church.

This fulfilled the prophecy that the little horn would “intend to change times and law” (Daniel 7:25).

The Roman State and the Catholic Church joined hands to spread this teaching throughout the world. Even today, many accept it as if it were from God.

Since they saw that what they had done had no foundation in the Holy Scriptures, they argued that Sunday was the day Jesus rose from the dead, and the day on which the Holy Spirit was poured out.

But the fact that Jesus rose on Sunday and that the Holy Spirit was poured out on that day does not cancel the command of God which says:
“It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the least stroke of a pen to drop out of the Law.” (Luke 16:17).
