Welcome to University of Gitwe University of Gitwe (UG) has played a major role in the Rwanda educational history since 1993.

In 2013, this university began awarding undergraduate degrees in nursing science, biomedical science, and computer science faculties. Currently, UG is running various programs in five faculties namely Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, Bachelor of General Nursing Science, Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Computer Science Management, Bachelor of Computer science Engineering, and Bachelor

of Education. Throughout our history, we are strongly committed to a higher learning program grounded in enhancing mental, spiritual, physical, and social faculties of our students.

VC and DVC of the University of Gitwe paid a courtesy visit to the Nigerian High Commission in Kigali to discuss collaborations aimed at revitalizing UoG’s Medical School through partnerships with Nigerian medical professionals and medical schools. More updates coming soon.

On 23 July 2026, the University of Gitwe proudly installed its new Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Ashraf, during a distinguished ceremony held at the Embassy of Egypt in Kigali.

The installation was officiated by the University’s Legal Representative in the presence of the, VC, DVC, CoB, and other distinguished guests. We are deeply grateful to H.E. the Egyptian Amb to Rwanda for graciously hosting this memorable occasion.

We congratulate Prof. Ashraf on his appointment and look forward to his visionary leadership in advancing excellence, innovation, and international collaboration.
