As we begin to prepare for the second iteration of the Yale Model Africa Union, it’s important to once again, recognize all the hardwork that our predecessors put into making this dream become a reality. Thank you to Francesa, Richard, and Ornella for paving the way and doing what was never done before. With that being said, we are excited to share this very special announcement with you. Congratulations to Fatoumata Soumare and Julia Oladipo, the two new co-presidents of YMAU!

Fatoumata Soumare is a junior in Pauli Murray. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Fatoumata is an African Studies major with an emphasis on business in Francophone West Africa. She served on the secretariat last year as USG of International Recruitment. She’s excited to be apart of an amazing of young African intellectuals and change makers.

Julia Oladipo is a junior in Davenport College. Hailing from Long Island, NY, Julia is a prospective major in Neuroscience with an emphasis on Global Health Studies. Alongside Fatoumata, she served as USG of Branding and Marketing. Julia is a fierce advocate for medical and education equity, and channels this love through community initiatives with SHEA and tutoring low-income students.

We are currently seeking candidates for the YMAU secretariat roles. There are positions spanning from administrative and content-planning to programming and marketing and branding. The application deadline is August 12th, 11:59pm EST. After reviewing applications, we will conduct one rounds of interview, and then release our decisions. The application is available through the link in the Instagram bio. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to Fatoumata or Julia through email ([email protected]). We are so excited to read all of your applications and begin to prepare for YMAU II!

The Yale Model African Union is entering a period of transition in preparation for the second iteration of our conference, and my term as YMAU President has come to an end. I would therefore like to thank everyone who contributed to making this conference what it was! It has truly been an honor to work on a project of this scale during my undergraduate career, and I cannot wait to see where YMAU goes from here. For those who attended YMAU, please do stay involved! And for those who would like to learn more, please read the YMAU I Executive Report now linked in our bio.

Following the conference, our speaker in the Peace & Justice workshop and the Economic and Social Council committee, United Nations diplomat Gorretty Omala, sent me a message detailing her takeaways from the conference that I hope will also inspire you all:

“Right before our very eyes, we watched the new breed of world leaders take their place at the helm and step up to the plate. Without any inhibitions you broke cultural and linguistic barriers, and you challenged the unfounded biases often targeted at Africa and the developing world. YMAU I brought the message home, resoundingly, that the new breed of African Youth will not allow bad leadership, poor governance, and corruption destroy our beautiful continent: Mother Africa.”

With the conference being one week away, YMAU is thrilled to welcome our incredible delegates located across the world. With nearly 200 delegates coming to gather during this three-day period of participating in a wide range of events, the opportunity to form life-long bonds in incredibly vast. YMAU highly recommends that delegates join Golden Key International Honour Society in keeping these relationships alive post-conference!

YMAU is incredibly honored to congratulate our very own Director General of Programme, Kaise Dualeh, on becoming the next President of the Yale International Relations Association!

“I ran for President cognizant that my background was not typical for leadership in YIRA or in international relations organizations more broadly. I hope that in my role, I can uphold YIRA and YMAU’s mission to make international relations education accessible for all people. Can’t wait to get to work!”
-Kaise Dualeh

Congrats Kaise! We are all ecstatic to see what lies ahead in your Presidential term!
