O controleaza, o cenzureaza, o interzic, o ard.
Nimanui.
Fa-o pentru ca poti.
Lasa o urma.
Traducere d**a textul de mai jos:
The mark no one asked you to make...
There's a brush on your table right now, or a pencil, or a pen you keep meaning to throw out because the ink skips. Pick it up for a second. Make one mark. A line, a smudge of color, the corner of something you can already half see. Nobody asked you for it. Nobody is paying you for it. It won't go in a show or a store or a feed unless you decide it will.
That small private thing, a mark no one requested, is the most ordinary freedom a human being has, and it's a real one.
We do this the second we're able. A child gets a crayon in her fist and drags it across the wall before anyone teaches her what a wall is for. Tens of thousands of years ago, someone pressed a hand flat against cold cave stone, blew pigment around it, and left a print that says only one thing across all that time: I was here, and I made this. It fed no one and warmed no one and killed nothing for dinner. It came before farming, before writing, maybe before most of the words we use. Just a person and a surface and the need to leave a mark.
Today is the Fourth of July, and a lot of you reading this aren't American, so I won't pretend the date belongs to everyone. The thing underneath it does. Freedom belongs to every hand, under every flag. And there's a plain, ugly pattern you can trace across every unfree place there has ever been: they come for the art. They censor it, control it, ban it, burn it. A ruler will bother to ban a painting. That's how much power lives in it. A frightened regime looks at a canvas made by one ordinary person, a thing that grows no food and wins no wars, and it feels threatened enough to destroy it. Where people are free, the reverse is just as plain. Art is cherished, protected, hung on walls and argued over and loved.
A painting is the supreme symbol of freedom, because only a free society truly cherishes it. Your unpaid, unrequested mark is a small piece of that same thing, the same freedom scaled down to one table and one hand.
Here's why it matters more than it looks like it should. That free mark, the one no one is standing over you to approve, is the soil where beauty actually grows. By beauty I mean the real thing, the luminous, almost holy quality that stops you in front of a canvas and makes a whole room go still. Beauty like that comes from the free marks. The honest ones. The mark you made because something in you needed to see it exist. Freedom is precious because it's the ground beauty is planted in, and beauty is the highest thing a free hand can carry into the world.
So this is my only ask, and it isn't really an ask. It's a reminder of something you already have. Make something this weekend. Small is fine. A five-minute drawing, a wash of color, the shadow your coffee cup throws across the table, one line that curves the way you want it to and answers to nobody. Not for us, not for anyone. Do it because you can, and because most of human history is a long argument about whether people like us should be allowed to. We are. We always were.
Go leave a mark.
