Reflecting on the Embrace Future Regional Conference in Iași! 🇷🇴
Last week, we brought together over 100 participants in Iași for a vital conversation on child mental health. With 1 in 5 children in Romania facing mental health challenges, Embrace Future is committed to moving from "knowing" to "acting."
The energy on May 14th was inspiring as we explored four key pillars:
• Education & Policy: Building frameworks with UNICEF and local leaders.
• Research & Innovation: Using data and AI to drive pedagogical change.
• Public Health: Prioritizing mental health as a community fundamental.
• Civil Society: Sharing pioneered models of care from top NGOs.
Thank you to all our speakers and attendees for helping us bridge the gap between resources and the children who need them most. Together, we are building a functional support system where no signal for help goes unnoticed. 💙

Can you name TRUST?
As part of our initiative, we turn to psychologist Robert Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions, where trust is a core emotion that supports connection, cooperation, and emotional security.
Trust is more than “just feeling safe.”
It is the foundation of relationships, helping children feel supported, confident, and open to others.
Research shows that naming emotions (“affect labeling”) supports emotional regulation and strengthens social understanding. When children learn to recognize trust, they are better able to build healthy relationships, communicate openly, and seek support when needed.

Meet our distinguished panels of speakers:

Can you name DISGUST?
As part of our initiative, we turn to psychologist Robert Plutchik’s Wheel of Emotions, where disgust is a core emotion that helps protect us from things that might be harmful or unsafe.
Disgust often appears when we encounter unpleasant smells, tastes, or situations.
It can help us avoid danger, but it can also influence how we react to unfamiliar experiences.
Research shows that naming emotions (“affect labeling”) helps reduce emotional intensity and supports self-regulation. When children learn to recognize disgust, they become better at understanding their reactions, communicating discomfort, and making safer choices.

Digital Literacy is Mental Health Literacy: Navigating Cyberbullying & The Online World with Embrace Future
The internet can be a space for learning, creativity, and belonging. But for middle and high school students, that "belonging" can quickly shift if the environment becomes unsafe.
In Module 5 of the Embrace Future Toolkit, we dive deep into the dual nature of the online world. Our latest sessions focus on empowering students to reclaim their digital spaces by moving from passive scrolling to active safety.
Key Takeaways from the Training:
• The Digital Upside: We start by validating the benefits. From digital creativity to finding a community where they don't feel alone, we acknowledge why being online matters to youth.
• Defining the Line: Cyberbullying is the repeated use of digital spaces to humiliate or emotionally hurt others. Recognizing this definition is the first step to stopping it.
• The "Stop Cyberbullying" Action Plan: We teach students that they are never alone in this.
• Understanding Communication Styles: High school students specifically learn how to identify different communication styles (passive, aggressive, and assertive) and learn how to respond to online behavior healthily.
Our strategy is built on three pillars:
👩🏫 Reporting to Trusted Adults: Breaking the silence with parents or teachers.
🤝 Active Allyship: Supporting classmates who are targeted rather than staying silent.
💬 Digital Respect: Refusing to encourage or circulate insulting messages.
The Goal: To ensure the online space remains what it was meant to be - a place of respect, support, and safety.
