We are pleased to announce the successful award of a 𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗜𝗘 𝗦𝗞Ł𝗢𝗗𝗢𝗪𝗦𝗞𝗔-𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗜𝗘 𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦, (𝗦𝗘), 𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹: 𝗛𝗢𝗥𝗜𝗭𝗢𝗡-𝗠𝗦𝗖𝗔-𝗦𝗘-𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 with the project ,,𝗡𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗", where Universitatea de Arhitectură și Urbanism Ion Mincu București Oficial is representated by Andreea Robu-Movila in a consortium with parteners from Turkey, Portugal, United Kingdom, Romania and Brasil.

81 projects from 360 aplications have been selected for funding (a 22.5% success rate), involving 1,093 organisations in 95 countries and strengthening international research cooperation across sectors. MSCA awards €97.7 million for international research cooperation projects.

The 𝗡𝗘𝗨𝗥𝗢-𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗟𝗗 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 is centred on rethinking paediatric healthcare environments through the integration of innovative, stress-reducing technologies and tailored spatial design interventions. It adopts a child-friendly, therapeutic, and cost-effective approach to address one of the most pressing challenges in healthcare settings: the heightened levels of stress and anxiety experienced by children, particularly in shared spaces such as waiting areas prior to medical procedures.

𝙍𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙜𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙩 𝙚𝙣𝙫𝙞𝙧𝙤𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙧𝙚𝙣’𝙨 𝙥𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡-𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩’𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙗𝙟𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙖𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙡𝙮 𝙧𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙚 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙡𝙡-𝙗𝙚𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚-𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 . In this context, the research focuses on developing and testing alternative child-centred design scenarios specifically for waiting areas. These scenarios incorporate spatial strategies aimed at reducing stress, supporting healing processes, fostering restorative experiences, and achieving measurable improvements in users’ well-being.

What distinguishes NEURO-CHILD from conventional healthcare design approaches is its interdisciplinary methodology. The project integrates cutting-edge neuroarchitectural principles, mixed reality technologies, and child-centred design frameworks to explore how environments can be optimised based on cognitive and emotional responses. Through this approach, the project seeks to enhance perceived environmental quality, reduce anxiety, and ultimately improve health outcomes for vulnerable users, particularly children.

The overarching ambition is to develop child-friendly, restorative alternatives to traditional healthcare environments, which are often associated with negative psychological effects. By doing so, NEURO-CHILD aims to deliver spatial solutions and tools that are demonstrably more effective in reducing stress than conventional healthcare settings. Implementation in clinical and design contexts targets a wider adoption within healthcare organisations.
