Learning Basic Skills Through Play ⭐
At 2 years old, play-based ABA activities can help build early skills such as attention, matching, fine motor coordination, and problem-solving in a fun and supportive way.

Every child learns at their own pace, and therapy should always be respectful, safe, and child-centered.

Preference Assessment in ABA Therapy πŸ’™πŸ’›

Every child has unique interests, favorites, and motivators. In ABA therapy, we use preference assessment to discover what a child enjoys and what can encourage learning, participation, and positive behavior.

Preference assessment helps us identify items or activities such as:

✨ Favorite toys
✨ Snacks or treats
✨ Sensory activities
✨ Songs or videos
✨ Movement games
✨ Social praise
✨ Special play activities

When we understand what motivates a child, we can make therapy more fun, meaningful, and effective.

Why is it important?

Preference assessment helps therapists:
βœ” Increase cooperation
βœ” Support communication
βœ” Encourage task completion
βœ” Build new skills
βœ” Reduce frustration
βœ” Make learning enjoyable

Every child learns better when they feel happy, motivated, and supported. 🌟

✨ Following simple instructions
✨ Matching and sorting
✨ Problem-solving

Autism & Sensory Needs

Every child experiences sensory input differently. Some children may be sensitive to sounds, lights, textures, or touch, while others may seek movement, pressure, or sensory play.

Sensory needs are not β€œbad behavior.” They are a way children communicate what their body needs to feel safe, calm, and ready to learn.

Common sensory experiences may include:
✨ Covering ears when sounds are too loud
✨ Avoiding certain clothes, food textures, or messy play
✨ Seeking jumping, spinning, running, or deep pressure
✨ Feeling overwhelmed in busy or noisy places
✨ Needing extra time to adjust to new environments

Helpful support ideas:
πŸ’™ Offer calm spaces and sensory breaks
πŸ’™ Use visual supports and predictable routines
πŸ’™ Introduce sensory tools based on the child’s needs
πŸ’™ Observe what helps the child feel calm and regulated
πŸ’™ Respond with patience, understanding, and support

When we understand sensory needs, we help children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.

🌈 Pairing in ABA Therapy

Pairing is the first and most important step in building a positive relationship between the therapist and the child.

During pairing, the therapist focuses on becoming fun, safe, and enjoyable for the child. Instead of placing demands, the therapist joins the child in activities they enjoy such as playing with toys, bubbles, music, or games.

The goal is for the child to learn:

✨ β€œGood things happen when this person is around.”
