THE ELBOW BUMP: A NEW DISEASE REVIVES AN OLD GREETING.
The elbow bump became popular iin Hawaii in 1969. When they were freed from isolation and allowed to attend their local church, members of the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement and the church members would touch elbows instead of shaking hands, as a way of limiting transmission of the disease. The greeting was revived again in the 2006 avian flu outbreak, in 2009 during the swine flu epidemic, during the flu epidemic of 2012, for Ebola in 2014 and now for Covid-19. But beware. It's still possible to have infected elbows!

THE COVID VIRUS HAS CAUSED AN EPIDEMIC OF UNHEALTHY MARKETING.
Since late January, we've received well over 100 emails and texts using this disease as a pretext to sell something completely unrelated to it. This is called Desperate Marketing. It's a sign of a brand without a strategy of its own, desperate to ride on the back of any big global story. If you're in marketing, or would like to be, don't do this. Nobody cares about your brand at times like this unless you can offer relief or a cure.
