🎵 Can music help break down barriers to inclusion?
Meet Beril Sarıaltun, a sound designer and musician who is empowering women and girls in Turkey to access career and education opportunities in music through her initiative Beats By Girlz.
Beril joined us as the curator of our My City, My Voice project, which explores cities across Turkey from the perspectives of the women who live in them. Through mentoring, ‘sound walks’, and collaborative workshops, the project enables women to compose, record and produce their own city-inspired songs!
Now in its third year, My City, My Voice has expanded beyond Turkey to include artists from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia. It has resulted in two acclaimed albums and documentaries, and a live performance at WOW Festival in Istanbul!
