Recently one of my students asked me what being 30 is like and I only have 4 months worth of experience, but this is what came to mind:
It’s like the smell in the air and the leaden look of the sky right before it’s about to rain. Like something is brewing, in the most bewildering way possible. But, it’s beaming and bolstered too. It’s finite because society deemed it so for women*, but fathomless because the drape of ‘one size fits all’ was never flattering on me.
It’s being awestruck and grateful that you’ve been blessed with more than 10,000 days and 260,000 hours while there’s this lingering feeling that time is running out. When in actuality, you’ve spent your whole life racking it up.
My honest answer is that it’s cushy and convoluted over here and also too soon to tell, but what I can say for certain is that something is brewing…
I’m not quite sure what yet, what I have all of my 30s to figure it out.
