What a heartwarming Arbor Day! 🌱 The children planted new trees and crafted magical lanterns, bringing light and life to our community. Families gathered around the fire, roasting castanhas and learning some new songs! Our growing community came together in a beautiful way - celebrating nature, creativity and each other. Thank you to everyone who made this day so special! 🌳✨

The academic year is in full flow! We currently have 64 learners and our educator team has doubled to 16.

This term Pinheiros learners enjoy a variety of afternoon ateliers. Adam, our wood workshop facilitator encourages our learners to make different things; a chess board with chess pieces out of cork, an insect catcher, a little car. Gioya has made a treetop adventure park for her cork characters.

OUR EDUCATORS TEAM

Pedagogy Co-ordinator - Mirka Hlavacova
Mirka oversees the project-based learning pedagogy for the primary section. Originally from the Czech Republic, with a B.A. in Biology and a minor in Education, she has also completed Outdoor Education Leadership Training.

Kindergarten Educator - Moran Gabay
Moran brings decades of experience in the management of kindergarten. She is responsible for our «Seeds» group, ages 3-4.

Reception Class / First Grade Educator - Claudia Miranda
Originally from South Africa, but with Portuguese parents, Claudia leads our Sprouts class (reception and first grade). She has a background in teaching children with special needs.

LEAD PROGRAM DEVELOPER - Wendy Coleman
From the US, Wendy, with an MBA and a MEd (Harvard) is our teen educational program developer and beloved Math teacher. Her emphasis lies in encouraging students to explore their individual identities within the context of community.

OUR ASSOCIATION
Associação Pinheiros is a community-led endeavor focused on creating alternative opportunities for learning and skill development for children from ages 3-17.
Based in Lagos in Southern Portugal, learners are encouraged to take active, empowered roles in their personal learning paths, and in civic engagement.

Currently there are 7 full time educators/facilitators and 6 part-time specialists/tutors/mentors, along-side many volunteers. We are a not-for-profit association operating in the field of education, culture and recreation (with no religious or political affiliation).
