Closing of the "PWF Palestine: Lecture Series on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence"

The online lecture series on machine learning and artificial intelligence, titled PWF Palestine, organized by Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie, concluded its successful run (organized by: Jebreen , Barbier , ElKhozondar , Stojic , and M. A. Amro ). This workshop, which took place from October 15, 2025, to December 16, 2025, was a collaborative effort between Palestine Technical University, Islamic University of Gaza, Al-Aqsa University, University College of Applied Sciences – Gaza, Scientists for Palestine, and the Palestine Young Academy.

The program covered a wide range of topics, from Generative AI and Creativity (art, music, design) to Artificial Intelligence and its applications in computational physics, data science, astrophysics, and smart agriculture. Among the cutting-edge subjects discussed were the impact of AI in climate change modeling, food security, and renewable energy forecasting.

Esteemed speakers from global institutions contributed to the workshop, including:

Dr. Mauro Pastore (ICTP)

Dr. Maleika Heenaye-Mamode Khan (University of Mauritius)

Prof. Shaoping Xiao (University of Iowa)

Prof. Stefano Gabici (CNRS, Paris)

Dr. Donna Rodgers-Lee (Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies)

Dr. Deema Toteh (University of Iowa)

Prof. Jose M. Marban (University of Valladolid)

Prof. Alfonso Garcia-Monge (University of Valladolid)

Prof. Kamel Jebreen, Palestine Technical University and Prof. Hala J. El-Khozondar, Islamic University of Gaza, spearheaded the event’s organization, providing participants with both theoretical and practical knowledge in materials modeling and simulation techniques.

The workshop also focused on the use of AI in sectors crucial for future development, offering participants valuable insights into the integration of technology into sustainable solutions for the region.

This event has significantly contributed to fostering collaboration in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data-driven solutions for Palestine, enabling participants to learn from international experts while also exploring the latest advancements in these fields.

Call for applications for the Regional Course on:

Capacity Advancing Implementation Research Capacity to Strengthen Health and Community Systems
March 24–26, 2026

Organized by
The Regional Training Center, supported by TDR/WHO
for Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR)
Hammamet, Tunisia

Deadline of application: January 15, 2026
Only Palestinian applicants are eligible

Implementation research (IR) is the scientific study of barriers to and methods of promoting the systematic application of research findings in practice, including in public policies. IR explores the challenges that are faced when generalizing research findings “in the real world”, such as in the fields of health care. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines it as a form of research which “addresses implementation bottlenecks, identifies optimal approaches for a particular setting, and promotes the uptake of research findings; ultimately, it leads to improved health care and its delivery.” (WHO, 2017).

This training course will be based on the English version of the Toolkit
(https://adphealth.org/irtoolkit/
), that was developed by the Special Program for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) to strengthen implementation research (IR) capacities of individuals and institutions, especially in low- and middle-income countries. This course will introduce participants to the concepts of IR methods and ethics, tools and materials relevant to IR which facilitate the development of IR proposals applied to Infectious Diseases Programs.

COURSE CONTENTS

The training will be delivered through lectures, plenary presentations, group discussions and problem analysis through presentation and discussion of the following modules:

• Introduction to Implementation research
• Understanding Implementation research
• Developing an IR proposal
• Research methods and data management
• IR planning and Conducting IR
• Communication and Advocacy
• Integrating IR into Health systems
ELIGIBILITY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE COURSE

Only Palestinian applicants are eligible.

Projects focusing on one or two of the following areas: One Health, Emergency preparedness, AMR (antimicrobial resistance), and infectious diseases of poverty control and elimination.

Submission of Implementation Research project.

ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS

Participants are expected to bring their own IR proposal on Infectious Disease Programs they plan to implement.

Each project should be proposed by two persons (PI / Co-PI; PI / co-investigator) from collaborating teams on the proposal e.g. a researcher and a public health or social scientist, or a researcher and a disease control program manager, etc., and for each selected project, these two collaborators will be able to participate in this training.

It is desired, but not required, that the participants have followed the TDR MOOC on IR or the TDR e-learning training.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS FOR THE COURSE

Complete the application form (attached), https://drive.google.com/file/d/16rHvYNSnJty0xv9LOLkwkWZuGl8f92eJ/view
including the description of the proposed research (in the field of IR). Please note that the description of the proposed research section and the quality of the candidates applying to the course are important for the final selection of participants.

Full CVs (for PI and Co-PI)
