No doubt: México is magic.
This week, I had the amazing experience of celebrating my birthday in Mexico City.
First, if you know me, you know I'm obsessed with great food. And thanks to my friends, Marce and Jorge, I got to eat some of the best I’ve had in one of the most beautiful cities I've ever visited.
But it wasn't all about the eating. Travel can be a great awakener — there's nothing like new sights, nature and flavors to bring you fully into the present moment. This is especially true in CDMX, which is a spectacular achievement in culture, history, architecture and, YES, gastronomy.
Mindfulness let me enjoy all this a bit more AND be more compassionate with myself as well. For example, even though I'm normally someone that moves fast, I wasn't used to the altitude or the cold, which meant I had to walk much slower than I do in Puerto Rico. At first, I’d get impatient with myself because I got tired quickly and couldn’t handle the cold that well.
But once I noticed this, I decided to extend love to my body, instead of criticizing its need for rest. I also saw how moving slower allowed me to appreciate everything around us — from the enormous, leafy trees that brought shade and quiet to such a busy city, to the cute dogs that seemed to be everywhere.
I'm thankful for all of it, and for the blessing of starting another year of life here, surrounded by love.
