Ever wonder why some people get into the cake and pastry world?

This is my story.

Some of you I’ve met before at conventions and events while others are friends, family or former co-workers. For those of you that don’t know me, let me introduce myself. I’m Shalymar, the woman behind ...then comes cake.

As a former army brat I’ve lived in Germany, Georgia, Texas, New York and Puerto Rico. As an adult I’ve moved back and forth between Puerto Rico, Florida and California. I am a mom to a very determined and incredibly smart (almost 6 year old 😭) “little” girl who’s always keeping me on my toes.

From when I was younger, I’ve always been interested in the arts, be it music, painting, drawing or theater. Once I started watching the Food Network, I was hooked! Watching cake competitions and Duff Goldman doing what he does best, inspired me to expand my artistic interests.

I enrolled in pastry school and graduated with an Associates of Science Degree in Patisserie & Baking from Le Cordón Bleu- Orlando in 2009. Since then I worked in the pastry departments at a hotel, cafe and a theme park while also baking cakes and treats from my home.

I currently offer completely custom cakes and desserts from scratch and my favorite ones to work on are sculpted cakes.

I’m currently starting my business back up again in my hometown of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico and am hoping to build up my clientele here.
