August marks six years since we turned our lives upside down, moved back to Poland and started Tok Story 🇬🇧

Six years of building a job I genuinely love, working with amazing clients, making new friends, and having the freedom and independence to create a life on my own terms.

The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Sometimes, you just need to water your own. 🌱

Welcome back to the English you didn't know you needed series.

TOO OLD TO GIVE A F*CK (TOTGAF)

A condition typically developing with age, characterised by a dramatic decline in concern for other people's opinions.

Recent research suggests that symptoms may include:
• dancing like nobody's watching,
• playing the tambourine with alarming confidence,
• wearing whatever makes you happy and comfortable,
• and realising that most people are far too busy thinking about themselves to think about you.

But what does the language actually mean?

to give a f** (verb phrase, informal, vulgar)
= to care very much about something

to care what people think
= to worry about other people's opinions

to let go of...
= to stop holding on to something, especially emotionally

to embrace something
= to accept something enthusiastically

⚠️ Language note:
to give a f** is a strong expression. It's common in everyday spoken English, but maybe not something you'd use in a job interview.

PROCRASTIBAKING 🍪
– the art of avoiding what you should be doing by making baked goods nobody asked for, while ignoring the task that actually matters.
Recent research suggests that baking becomes significantly more urgent when you have:
• an important email to write
• a translation deadline tomorrow
• a lesson plan to finish

Vocabulary unlocked:
to procrastinate (verb)
= to delay doing something you need to do, usually by doing something less important
to put something off (phrasal verb)
= to delay doing something
a distraction (noun)
= something that takes your attention away from what you should be doing
The procrastination universe expands:
procrasticleaning 🧽
= cleaning the inside of your dishwasher instead of doing the one thing you actually need to do.
procrastiplanning 📅
= spending two hours creating a cunning plan instead of actually starting the task.
procrastigardening 🌱
= suddenly deciding your plants urgently need attention when you have work to finish.
procrasti-shopping 🛒
= buying something online because you need a break from being productive.

Vocabulary unlocked :
clutter (noun)
= a collection of things that make a space messy or crowded
"My desk is full of clutter." < true story!
to declutter (verb)
= to remove things you no longer need and make a space tidier
"I need to declutter my wardrobe." < big time!
belongings (noun)
= the things you own, especially personal items
"Don’t forget your belongings when you leave."
to relocate (verb)
= to move something to a new place (a more formal/fancy way to say "move")
"I relocated my books to another room."

Nie pomogę Ci schudnąć.
Ale mogę sprawić, że przynajmniej jedna z tych rzeczy przestanie wracać na Twoją listę postanowień 🇬🇧
Uczę dorosłych, którzy chcą swobodnie rozmawiać po angielsku i używać go w życiu, a nie tylko na lekcji.
Jeśli wiele razy obiecywałaś (-eś) sobie: „kiedyś wrócę do angielskiego”... to może właśnie teraz jest dobry moment. 😉
