📣 MineCuON Workshop at COMEX 📣

We are pleased to announce what a successful event the MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors workshop was held at Comex Group headquarter in Oświęcim on May 26-27, 2026!

⚙️During the presentation session, consortium members discussed the analytical studies on material classification and recognition using XRT and XRF sensors for individual materials. The presentations of sorting specific copper ores (from KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., DIAMO, státní podnik (Zlate Hory), TRATEC, Boliden, and Ge.Ne.S), presentation of new WP9 concept - pilot installation and technical discussions about COMEX sorter technology also took place.
🤝‍We would like to thank COMEX for the excellent organization of the meeting and the opportunity to discuss directly the developing MineCuON technology!
💬As we approach the halfway point of the MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors project, this valuable meeting, filled with endless discussions, was truly a milestone for our growing consortium.
🙏 Special thanks for Krzysztof Marański from EIT RawMaterials for his participation and support!
Stay tuned, we will soon publish a video report from this event🤗

The project is being carried out with KGHM CUPRUM sp. z o.o. - Centrum Badawczo-Rozwojowe (Leader), KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., Comex Group, Technical University of Kosice, Łukasiewicz – Instytut Metali Nieżelaznych, Główny Instytut Górnictwa - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy, as well
as DIAMO, státní podnik, Boliden, TRATEC S.R.O., GE.NE.S, Blue Moon Metals Inc.

📣 TRATEC joins the MineCuON

Again, another Partner joins our MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors project as new Task Partner.
This time we are pleased to welcome TRATEC S.R.O. from Slovakia. The company operates in the support activities for non-ferrous minerals mining industry.

⚒️ TRATEC delivers the copper ore material from the Mária mine in Rožňava, which supports MineCuON for larger scale laboratory and pilot-scale tests.
As Project RIS Task Partner, it will also contribute to stakeholder engagement and project dissemination across RIS countries.

📈The involvement of TRATEC increases the diversity of the ore being tested and the potential results of the MineCuON pre-concentration system.

📣 BOLIDEN is a new MineCuON Partner!

We are happy to announce that Boliden has joined the MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors project as a potential end-user. The Company has signed the Letter of Intent for MineCuON and delivered the copper ore material from the Aitik mine.
️⚒️ Boliden owns Aitik – Sweden’s largest open-pit copper mine and one of the world’s most efficient mining operations. In 2025, approximately 39.2 million tonnes of ore were processed into concentrates containing copper, gold and silver.
🧭 Within the project cooperation, Boliden will be also informed about the project progress, engage with the results verification and potential end-user of the sensor-based sorting solutions.
📈The involvement of Boliden increases the diversity of the ore being tested and the potential results of the MineCuON pre-concentration system being developed.

Technical visit in DIAMO, státní podnik

🗺️ On April 15, representatives of from KGHM CUPRUM sp. z o.o. - Centrum Badawczo-Rozwojowe, Comex Group and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. had the pleasure of participating in the MineCuON technical visit in Zlaté Hory, Czech Republic, hosted by DIAMO.
⛏️ The visit provided an opportunity not only to explore the underground mine and its historic section, but also to exchange experiences, hold inspiring discussions, and gain deeper insight into the region’s rich mining heritage.
Thank you DIAMO, státní podnik, especially Jiří Mužák and Ladislav Pašek, for hosting our group!
DIAMO has joined MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors project with the tasks of variability sampling, determinizing mineralogy, preparing and transferring the samples for laboratory testing.
🤝 We are happy that cooperation with DIAMO enriches the project scope and working together enabling a deeper understanding of technical requirements and helped streamline the upcoming project milestones.

👥 at KOMEKO 2026 Conference
The KOMEKO 2026 Conference took place in Szczyrk on March 23-25, 2026. A team from the Główny Instytut Górnictwa - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy (GIG-PIB) had the pleasure of presenting a paper entitled 📚"MineCuON - Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors."
🗣️The presentation covered the project's general objectives, individual work packages, and the tasks implemented by GIG-PIB. The Institute was represented by a large delegation, including Agnieszka Klupa, Ph.D. Eng., Magdalena Cempa, and Waldemar Mijał, PhD. Representatives from other research and industrial institutions were able to find out about the feasibility of implementing the project, the benefits of pre-enrichment, specific practical aspects of the project, the impact of pre-enrichment feed analytics, densimetric analyses, and the impact of using advanced pre-enrichment methods before flotation, as well as the benefits of this approach. The final part of the presentation focused on the impact of densimetric fraction separation on the calibration process of sensors such as XRT and XRF.
🤝The project is carried out by a consortium consisting of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. (industry partner), KGHM CUPRUM sp. z o.o. - Centrum Badawczo-Rozwojowe (project coordinator), Comex Group, Główny Instytut Górnictwa - Państwowy Instytut Badawczy, Łukasiewicz – Instytut Metali Nieżelaznych, Technical University of Košice.
📣 Stay tuned with MineCuON. Mining pre-concentration system for copper ores based on XRT and XRF sensors!
