W przypadku niektórych czasowników użycie formy "ing" lub bezokolicznika zupełnie zmienia ich znaczenie. Jak znaczenie zostanie zmodyfikowane, zależy od konkretnego czasownika.

UNCOMMON ADJECTIVES

Gold or golden hair?
Stone or stony look?
Wood or wooden table?

Short versions of the above adjectives refer to an AUTHENTIC, REAL material from which the thing is made.

So, we say:

a wood table - made of wood
a stone monument - made of stone
a gold chain - made of gold
a silk scarf - made of silk
a feather hat - made of feathers

But, if the thing is NOT REALLY made of the material, but a description or metaphor, we say:

a wooden backround - on a computer
a stony look - an unpleasant look
a golden watch - not from real gold
silky hair - pleasant in touch
feathery light suitcase - very light

PUNCTUATION IS POWERFUL

What is the difference between these sentences?
Is there any difference at all?

1. My wife who I upset is so important to me.
2. My wife, who I upset, is so important to me.

In the first case, if we write such a sentence our wife may, eventually, forgive us.
However, NO ONE should EVER use the SECOND VERSION!
As in this case the result might be opposite.

WHY?

The translation is:

1. I have one wife. The commas are not necessary.
2. I have more than one wife (number unspecified :) ). The commas are used in order to specify exactly WHICH WIFE I am talking about. In this case, I am talking about the one whom I have upset, so there is (or are) also another one (others) which I do not mention. Moreover, speaker also specifies that THIS PARTICULAR wife is important to him.

PUNCTUATION

Apart from saving people's lives it can also considerably change the meaning of a sentence :)

Take the following CV extract:

"My interest include: cooking dogs, dancing movies, food science"

So, the prospective (future) employee might be well looking for a job in China, a Bollywood movie or possibly a molecular gastronomy restaurant :)
But the office would be a far dream.

Or a blog extract:

"For all of those out there who fancy cooking my wife just made
a new blog at http://vegejadek.blogspot.com"

So, the moral is:

Use commas, don't be a psycho :)
