In Gospel of Matthew 25:1-13, the Lord Jesus Christ shares the parable of the ten maidens - five wise, five foolish.
They all looked the same.
They were all waiting.
But only some were truly prepared.
The wise brought extra oil, so when the bridegroom was delayed, their lamps were still burning.
The foolish had no reserve… and when the moment came, they weren’t ready.
The Lord Jesus Christ says the Kingdom of Heaven will be like this.
If the oil represents faith, then this isn’t just a story - it’s a mirror.
Are you just waiting… or are you prepared?
Is your faith something you live out daily, or only when it’s convenient?
What happens when the waiting feels long - does your “oil” run low?
It’s easy to look ready on the outside.
But when the moment comes… will you be ready?
No one could share their oil.
No one could borrow faith at the last second.
So ask yourself:
Where do I really stand?
Am I growing my faith or neglecting it?
If He came today… would my lamp still be burning?
The wise didn’t just believe He would come -
they lived like it mattered.

Feast of the Annunciation
God has a unique call for each person who has ever lived. Some of those callings will bring fame or fortune, others will be more obscure. Some will bring great challenge. When God planned to send His Son into the world to live among us and to die for our sins, He chose a young girl named Mary, who history tells us was only 14 or 15 at the time, for this important task. Thankfully, she said “YES!”
Because she worked in concert with God, in the most special and unique way a human being ever has, bearing in her womb God’s Son, we exalt her above every person who has ever lived. Her answer to God’s call is in part responsible for our salvation. She is rightly honored.
Blessed Virgin Mary in her humility was prepared to receive God the Word, calling herself a servant to God even after anticipating that she will have Him dwelling in her. With her faithful heart, she was willing to yield and trust in the process of having Him dwell within her.
We can benefit from this aspect during the fast and prepare for His dwelling within us that is to come by practicing humility and faithfulness to however God chooses to get us there, and trusting the process.
Sometimes God asks us to do what may seem difficult, even impossible, in our eyes. However, in His Word He gives us reasons to trust Him, to place ourselves in His hands, as Virgin Mary did. (Prov. 3:5, 6)
Will we? If we do, He will reward us, giving us reasons to build even stronger faith in Him.
