O tak...
Narcissists start arguments before birthdays, holidays, or any special occasion because any day that isn’t about them, they’ll do their best to ruin.
For many people, celebrations are meant to bring joy, connection, and happy memories. In an unhealthy relationship, however, those same occasions can become times of tension and emotional exhaustion. Just before an important event, a small disagreement may suddenly escalate into a major conflict. Plans are disrupted, moods are ruined, and what should have been a meaningful day becomes overshadowed by stress and uncertainty.
Over time, you may begin to notice a pattern. Birthdays, anniversaries, family gatherings, holidays, graduations, or other milestones are repeatedly interrupted by unexpected arguments, silent treatment, criticism, or emotional outbursts. Instead of looking forward to special occasions, you begin dreading them, wondering what will happen this time and whether you’ll once again spend the day trying to restore peace rather than enjoying the moment.
Not every disagreement before a celebration is intentional or a sign of narcissism. Stress, family dynamics, and ordinary relationship conflicts can affect anyone. The concern arises when there is a consistent pattern of important moments being overshadowed by behavior that redirects attention, creates emotional chaos, or leaves others feeling responsible for salvaging the occasion.
Healthy relationships don’t compete with your happiness. They celebrate your milestones, support your joy, and make room for both people to feel valued. A loving partner or family member doesn’t repeatedly turn meaningful occasions into emotional battlegrounds or leave you associating special memories with anxiety.
If every celebration seems to end the same way, pay attention to the pattern rather than dismissing each incident as an isolated event. The people who truly care about you want your happiest moments to remain happy. They don’t feel threatened by your joy—they share in it, protect it, and help create memories that bring you peace instead of pain.
