📚 Where does this interest in biomedical engineering come from?
I have always been passionate about medical-related subjects, and I have always taken great pleasure in being able to help others. I graduated from a technical high school specialising in IT, and I wanted to combine my education with my interests, which is why I chose biomedical engineering 🦾.

✨ Why Attend PBME This Year?
I think this is the perfect opportunity to broaden one’s knowledge in the rapidly developing fields of biomedical engineering. An added bonus is the chance to present one’s research findings during academic sessions and to meet new people who share one’s interests 😁.

🔬 Current Focus & Research
My research focuses on neuroengineering, specifically brain-computer interfaces. I have recently started my PhD and am devoting my attention to it, concentrating on BCI algorithms that support the neurorehabilitation of patients 🖥️-🧠.

What first sparked your interest in biomedical engineering? ⚙️
"A fascination with the digitization of the human body and its applications in medicine." 🫆

Why is it worth taking part in this year's PBME? 🧑‍🏫
"It's a great starting point for getting into research and the commercialization of biomedical engineering solutions, a chance to listen, find inspiration, and meet people working in the same field."🔍

What are you currently working on? 🤓
"My own MCS (mechanical circulatory support system), controlled by biosignals and using a blood analog I'm developing to simulate the conditions of cardiovascular disease. It also analyzes HRV data from everyday devices to predict flare-up days in bruxism."🩸🦷

Advice or a guiding principle for young researchers? 🧑‍🔬
"Self-development and adaptability should always come first."🧑‍💻🔥

🔬 Let's start with where your interest in biomedical engineering comes from, and what you're currently working on in your research?
"Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by how things are made - from all kinds of machines and devices, all the way to the human body 🧠⚙️. Biomedical engineering was the perfect answer to that question. Right now I'm working on the mechanical behavior of hydrogels."
💭 What advice or guiding thought would you give to young researchers just starting their journey in the scientific world?
"Don't be afraid to start early 🚀. Approach it ambitiously right from the beginning, and try to keep teaching yourself in a field you're truly passionate about."
🍽️ And of course, we can't forget the most important question - if you were a food, what would you be?
"A sandwich with pâté and a slice of tomato 🥪🍅. Maybe it sounds a bit basic, but everyone loves it."

"I've always wanted the chance to develop across disciplines ✨, and biomedical engineering offers exactly that. It's a field that connects projects that, at first glance, have nothing in common 🧩. That means you never have to worry about getting bored 😌 - you just need to find a new project 😊"
🔍 What are you currently working on in your research, and what do you find most exciting about it?
"Right now I'm focused on my PhD 🎓, where I work on active microreservoirs for biomedical applications 💊. I focus on designing them and exploring their potential use in medicine. What excites me most is being able to work on a solution that could one day have a real, practical application in medicine 🌍❤️."
💭 In your opinion, what advice or guiding thought would you give to young researchers taking their first steps?
"Don't be afraid of change 🚀, and give yourself space to find your own path 🧭. In science, not everything has to be clear right away - sometimes it's worth trying something new and seeing where it takes you ✨."

⚙️ How did it all start?
I have always been fascinated by how science, technology, and engineering can help people overcome barriers caused by illness and other physical limitations. I graduated in mechanical engineering, but since defending my PhD in 2013, I have been actively involved in applying 3D printing, virtual reality, and reverse engineering to support doctors and patients. Since 2015, I have supervised numerous thesis projects and research initiatives with undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in biomedical engineering, who constantly inspire me to take on even more exciting challenges shaping the future of medicine.

🔬 What’s on the Workbench Right Now?
Automated design and rapid manufacturing of personalized medical devices based on imaging and reverse engineering! Currently, two major R&D projects: OrthoHandVR—personalized orthoses + VR working in synergy for rehabilitation 🦾🥽 and AutoSkull3D—automated design, 3D printing, and holograms in the hands of surgeons 🧠

👨‍🔬 Advice for young scientists:
“Don't be afraid of bold ideas and daring research directions, and keep in mind that a scientist serves humanity first and foremost—not themselves.” 🌍
