I made my highschool teachers watch Beat Street! 😆

I was just at my high school’s 30 year anniversary to give a keynote speech and perform. So much nostalgia. I got to see my old French teacher who first gave me permission to skip school to enter a breaking competition, and that’s how I won my first battle. 

My old sports teacher also walked up to me, shook my hand, and told me straight to my face: ”Here’s a man we should all use as an example.” He’s been following my career, printing out news articles and I even saw one on the wall.

Seeing my teachers being blown away by my life story really warms my heart. Before this teacher though... there was another guy who hated my guts. I always had a terrible grade in gym class, and I think it was because I never tried hard during the group sports. I didn’t like ice hockey, hated football... so I spent all my time and energy breaking. Everyday after school I’d stay behind to practice in the hallway, or pretty much wherever we had a little space. In between classes we would do backspin competitions. 

And I even bumped into the guy who was my backspin idol back in 1995. He’s 2 years older than me and had the illest backspin. Then I bumped into another guy who broke his front teeth doing a backflip into the ceiling. 

What really surprised me... Was just how many of my classmates used to break! Somehow in my village of 5000 people, it felt like everybody was breaking back in the mid 90s.

Which is crazy because no other city in the country was active like that. It had to do with my teacher Mikko who came to visit us once a week and gave everything he had.

I hope Mikko feels proud about the impact he’s had on so many people’s lives. I’ll never forget all the help he gave me for my windmill... I still use some of what he’s taught me to teach my students.

There’s so much magic at IBE. ✨ It’s the most beautiful breaking & Hip Hop festival on the planet. 🌍 It brings practitioners & activists from all levels and subgenres together in a way no other event does.

I’ve been invited to countless festivals worldwide, but IBE is different. Even though the schedule keeps changing, nobody knows the full lineup, and sometimes even the DJs & judges don’t know what they’re doing until the moment… we just adapt & flow. Like water. 💧 That’s Hip Hop, and that’s why people keep coming back year after year.

And people do come. I judged over 500 b-boys & b-girls for Undisputed, plus 200+ for Footworkerz. It’s hectic—you’re always running around, wishing you had more time to connect. But in the end, it always works out. It’s a beautiful mess. 🙌

Highlight of the weekend? Definitely the Timeless Titans x Flow Mo Anniversary qualifier battles. Everyone was 35+, and the level of flavour, character, charisma & experience was unmatched. Every battle felt like a conversation—pure joy to watch. 🔥

Other magical moments:
• Late-night storytelling with the crew, hoping to inspire the next gen the same way I was inspired almost 20 years ago by Storm, Wicket & Poe.
• Seeing Poe win a toprock 7-to-smoke.
• Getting called out by Zeshen.
• Sessioning with Jey on a white marble floor. Unreal.

And that session with Jey wasn’t just for fun. I’m on a mission to make footwork trendy again. 🌀 I want to connect you with knowledge not just from me, but from the top footwork heads in the scene. Expect fire content soon from Jey, Intact, Profo Won & Born… and if the hype is real, maybe even a mystery 5th player. 😉 Stay tuned.
