حضرت لقمان حکیمؒ کا ایک مشہور قصہ ہے کہ ان کے پاس ایک شخص آیا اور کہنے لگا کہ مجھے نصیحت کریں۔ لقمان حکیمؒ نے اس سے کہا کہ پہلے تم میرے ساتھ سفر کرو اور میری باتیں غور سے سنو۔ سفر کے دوران وہ شخص دیکھتا رہا کہ لقمان حکیمؒ ہر بات میں صبر، خاموشی اور سوچ سمجھ کر فیصلہ کرتے ہیں۔ ایک جگہ اس شخص نے بے صبری دکھائی تو لقمان حکیمؒ نے اسے سمجھایا کہ علم اور زندگی دونوں میں جلد بازی انسان کو نقصان پہنچاتی ہے۔ آخر میں انہوں نے کہا کہ اصل تعلیم وہی ہے جو انسان کے کردار کو بہتر بنائے، نہ کہ صرف الفاظ کو یاد کرنا۔ اس شخص نے یہ سبق سیکھا کہ اصل علم وہ ہے جو عمل میں نظر آئے۔
