🇵🇰 🇦🇫 PM&DC says Afghan medical students must meet Pakistan’s registration and immigration rules.
The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council has clarified its position on Afghan medical students, saying foreign students remain welcome to study medicine and dentistry in Pakistan — provided they meet the required academic, registration, documentation and immigration requirements.
PM&DC says more than 200 Afghan students were identified as studying medicine in Pakistan, but only 22 were currently registered with the council. Fourteen had completed their degree programmes, while eight were expected to graduate next year. Verification of the remaining 176 students is still underway.
The council says completion of a medical degree does not automatically provide the right to remain in Pakistan for employment or medical practice, and that applicable licensing and immigration requirements must still be met.
The clarification comes after recent PM&DC directives requiring previously enrolled Afghan medical and dental students to return to Afghanistan and barring new Afghan admissions during the current academic session.
