Researchers at King's College London, collaborating with Imperial College London, have made a significant advancement in regenerative dentistry by cultivating human teeth in a laboratory using the patient’s own cells.
This innovative development has the potential to revolutionize dental treatments by promoting natural tooth regrowth, offering an alternative to traditional fillings and implants.
The scientists were able to recreate the conditions necessary for early tooth formation, enabling the cells to interact and develop into actual teeth.
This technique offers a strong, biologically compatible option for dental restoration.
Two strategies are under investigation: placing tooth-forming cells directly into the jaw or engineering complete teeth in the lab for later transplantation.
If successful, this could mark a major shift in dental care, providing patients with a more organic and effective solution.
