🔴 #سائل: What is the ruling on celebrating the Prophet's birthday?
Praise be to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon our master and our guardian, the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and companions and those who follow them.
And after that, our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself thanked Allah Almighty for his noble birth; he said: "It is true that I fasted on Monday, so when I was asked about it, he said: 'That is the day I was born.'" [Narrated by Muslim]
And if this is proven to be true and known, then it is permissible for a Muslim - and for those who are his representatives - to celebrate his birthday ﷺ without joy, happiness, or delight in it ﷺ, with the colors of obedience and devotion, and to spread his virtues and teachings, and to gather the family and children to study his biography and Sunnah.
Imam Al-Sakha'i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: "Then the people of Islam, in all the regions and great cities, continue to celebrate the birth of the Prophet ﷺ, honor and respect him, perform the blessed prayers that encompass all matters of high joy and virtue, give charity in his nights in various forms, show joy, increase in blessings, even take care to recite the noble birthday of the Prophet, and all kinds of blessings appear upon them from his blessings." [Al-Ajwab al-Muridah (3/1116)]
Celebrating his birth ﷺ is one of the manifestations of his reverence and veneration ﷺ, which is the hallmark of his love ﷺ, the faith of a servant is not complete except by achieving it.
And may Allah send blessings and peace upon our master and our guardian Muhammad, and upon his family and companions and followers, and praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
