In Pakistan estimated around 5, 000 children are diagnosed with beta Thalassemia each year. The main factor of high prevalence of this disorder in Pakistan is consanguinity, making it a significant public health problem. The Department of Biochemistry in UMT, Sialkot campus is going to organize an Online webinar on “Prevention Program and Prenatal Diagnosis of Beta Thalassemia in Pakistan” to elaborate the importance of social current issue.

In this webinar respected speaker Dr. Furqan Sabir, Consultant “Punjab Thalassemia Prevention Program” Sir Ganga Ram, Hospital Lahore and Head of department “Molecular Diagnostic Division PAK Medical Centre Sialkot will speak about Screening of carriers (extended family screening), Pre-marital screening for the general public, Genetic counseling and Prenatal diagnosis.

The online webinar titled as “Biomarkers for Clinical Assessment in Critical Patients of Covid 19" was organized to get information from Dr. Hijab Batool, Chughtai Laboratory, Lahore about the scientific, clinical, and regulatory challenges encountered in the identification, characterization, and qualification of biomarkers in COVID-19 Patients. This session was aimed to build a vision about “Medical Biochemistry” and identify new research goals for biochemistry students.
