Eid al-Adha, also called the "Festival of Sacrifice," is one of the two major Islamic holidays. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, before God provided a ram to sacrifice instead. Muslims mark it by performing the Eid prayer, sacrificing livestock like sheep, goats, or cows, and distributing the meat to family, friends, and the poor. It coincides with Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, and falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic lunar calendar.
