UO secures NOC for PhD English Literature

The University of Okara (UO) has achieved another academic milestone as the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has granted a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the launch of its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme in English Literature from Fall 2026.
According to the official notification issued by HEC’s Quality Assurance Division, the approval has been granted after reviewing the university’s application and faculty profile. The programme will be offered under the supervision of qualified faculty members possessing doctoral degrees in English Literature, English, and Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL).
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Okara, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubin, has applauded the efforts of Dr. Muhammad Arshad Kamran, Chairperson, Department of English, for actively pursuing the process of the NOC and initiating the new degree program.
The approval reflects the University of Okara’s continued commitment to expanding advanced research opportunities and strengthening higher education in the region. University officials termed the development a significant step towards promoting quality research and producing highly skilled scholars in the field of English studies.

Cricket fever grips UO as new champions rise

The Directorate of Sports at the University of Okara (UO) successfully organized the “University of Okara Cricket Champion League 2026,” bringing together students from across the university in a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and talent. The mega sporting event featured participation from 18 boys’ teams and 6 girls’ teams representing various academic departments.
In the boys’ category, the team from the Department of Computer Science emerged as the champions after delivering an impressive performance throughout the tournament. In the girls’ category, the *Department of English* secured the title and earned appreciation for their outstanding gameplay and determination.
The event marked a historic milestone for the university as, for the first time, girls’ cricket teams participated in a cricket tournament at the university level. The initiative was widely appreciated by students and faculty members alike for promoting inclusivity and encouraging female participation in sports activities.
The league was organized under the supervision of Director Sports, Dr. Shehzad Ahmed, and Groundman, Mr. Ishtiaq, whose efforts ensured the successful management of the tournament.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Sajjad Mubin, congratulated the winning teams and appreciated the organizers for conducting a successful and inclusive sporting event. He said, “Sports play a vital role in the personality development of students. The participation of female students in cricket for the first time is a proud moment for the University of Okara. Such healthy activities promote confidence, discipline, teamwork, and unity among students.”
