Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of arthritis and a leading cause of joint pain worldwide. It occurs when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones gradually wears down, leading to pain, stiffness, swelling, and reduced mobility.
β‘ It most often affects the knees, hips, hands, and spine, making daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, or even gripping objects difficult.
β
Risk factors include aging, obesity, joint injuries, overuse, and family history.
β
Management focuses on physiotherapy, exercise, weight control, lifestyle modifications, pain relief medications, and in severe cases, joint replacement surgery.
π Early diagnosis, proper care, and regular movement can slow progression and improve quality of life.
