**"Mathematics is not about memorizing formulas—it’s about making sense of the world."**

To truly master physics and calculus, understanding the fundamental connection between discrete approximation and exact continuous limits is essential.

# # # 💡 **Riemann Sum ($\sum$) vs. Integration ($\int$)**

* 🧱 **Riemann Sum ($\sum$): Step-by-Step Approximation**
We begin by dividing complex problems into small, discrete steps ($k = 1, 2, \dots, n$). Each step brings us closer to understanding the whole system.
* 📈 **Integration ($\int$): The Exact Area**
As our steps become infinitely small ($n \to \infty$), approximation transforms into perfection. It’s not just close—it’s exact.

> **"Approximate to understand. Integrate to know for sure."**
> *Two different paths leading to the same mathematical truth.*

📖 Mastering the Oscilloscope 🔬

Understanding electrical waveforms is fundamental to electronics. This week, we explore the Oscilloscope, a powerful diagnostic tool that allows engineers and students to visually "see" electricity.

While a multimeter gives you single numbers, an oscilloscope provides the complete picture. This detailed guide, presented by Prof. Abdul Baqi Aziz, will help you interpret the displayed data.

Key Learning Points:

📊 The Screen: A two-axis graphical representation.

The Vertical Axis (Y) represents Voltage (signal amplitude).

The Horizontal Axis (X) represents Time (allowing frequency and period calculations).

⚙️ Primary Controls & Terms:

VOLTS/DIV (Vertical Scale): Determines how much voltage each grid box represents vertically.

TIME/DIV (Horizontal Time Base): Determines how much time each grid box represents horizontally.

Trigger: Stabilizes the waveform display so that repetitive signals look stationary.

✅ Quick Reference Table (Available in the Graphic):

Waveform: The shape of the signal (Sine, Square, etc.).

Amplitude: The vertical height (measured in Volts).

Time Period (T): The time it takes for one complete cycle (measured in seconds).

Frequency (f): The number of cycles per second (measured in Hertz, calculated as f = 1 / T).

💡 Pro Tip: Always make sure your probe is properly compensated (check the little square wave test signal on your device) before taking accurate measurements.

[Very Useful and Interesting Information You Must Know]

Scientists whose Names are Used as SI Units - - -

There are 7 SI base units and 22 SI derived units (excluding compound units) — we have been studying this, since high school. The interesting thing is that, out of these 29, 19 units are named after prominent scientists, recognizing their significant contributions to physics.

As a rule, the SI units are written in lowercase letters, but symbols of units derived from the name of a person begin with a capital letter (don't confuse). Here is the list:-

SI base units (green in the image) —
1. Kelvin (K): Thermodynamic temperature (named after Lord Kelvin)
2. Ampere (A): Electric current (named after André-Marie Ampère)

SI derived units —
1. newton (N): Force (named after Sir Isaac Newton).
2. henry (H): Inductance (named after Joseph Henry).
3. joule (J): Energy, work, heat (named after James Prescott Joule).
4. hertz (Hz): Frequency (named after Heinrich Rudolf Hertz).
5. weber (Wb): Magnetic flux (named after Wilhelm Weber).
6. siemens (S): Electrical conductance (named after Werner von Siemens).
7. farad (F): Capacitance (named after Michael Faraday)
8. gray (Gy): Absorbed dose of radiation (named after Louis Harold Gray).
9. becquerel (Bq): Radioactivity (named after Henri Becquerel).
10. degree Celsius (°C): Temperature (named after Anders Celsius).
11. pascal (Pa): Pressure (named after Blaise Pascal).
12. ohm (Ω): Electrical resistance (named after Georg Ohm).
13. coulomb (C): Electric charge (named after Charles-Augustin de Coulomb).
14. tesla (T): Magnetic flux density (named after Nikola Tesla).
15. volt (V): Electric potential (named after Alessandro Volta).
16. sievert (Sv): Radiation dose equivalent (named after Rolf Sievert).
17. watt (W): Power (named after James Watt).
