We are currently looking to recruit another a highly motivated PhD student for a new research project in the area of food biosciences titled - Milkybiotics: Priming the Gut for Good Bacteria
This is a funded 4 year PhD as part of the VistaMilk Research Ireland Centre, primarily based in the Department of Food Biosciences, Teagasc Moorepark Fermoy in collaboration with the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, University College Cork.
The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr Rita Hickey and I, and will work in collaboration with a broader multidisciplinary team of other Principal Investigators on the project.

This project will track how carbon and nutrients move from peat soils into blackwater rivers in Borneo, and ultimately to the atmosphere and coastal ocean. Combining intensive fieldwork with cutting-edge measurements, the PhD will link river biogeochemistry with data from a newly installed eddy covariance flux tower offering a rare, ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ผ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐บ-๐๐ฐ๐ฎ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ป ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑโ๐๐ฎ๐๐ฒ๐ฟโ๐ฎ๐๐บ๐ผ๐๐ฝ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฒ๐

โข Design and install field-based monitoring of aquatic biogeochemistry in pristine peat-draining river systems
โข Quantify carbon and nitrogen fluxes from peat to coast using field measurements, laboratory analyses, and modelling approaches
โข Analyse and interpret complex datasets using R or Python, including long-term time series
โข Contribute to high-impact scientific publications and present at international conferences
โข Engage in collaborative field campaigns and work within a multidisciplinary, international research team
