Organization History

Dosti Development Foundation (DDF) is a registered non-profit organization (NPO) under section 42 of the company ordinance 1984 with the Government of Pakistan. The overall goal of DDF is to provide relief and rehabilitation to natural and manmade disaster affected populations through providing livelihood opportunities and strengthening education systems. (DDF) emphasis on development of social and physical infrastructures by enhancing human skills through capacity building and awareness programs.

Since 2005 Pakistan has been suffering with a series of overlapping crises and natural calamities that had led to substantial internal displacement and left hundreds and thousands in need of humanitarian assistance. Natural disasters and conflicts have affected around 30 million Pakistanis and have raised chances for human tragedies. In accordance to cope with the humanitarian issues that have emerged as a result of the conflicts, earthquakes, floods and torrential rains, DDF has adopted a strategy patterned with participatory approaches. DDF is assisting local communities while in combating vulnerabilities and natural disasters. Besides; assisting basic infrastructure and necessities, DDF is capacitating communities with scientific techniques of disaster preparedness and crises management. DDF has established a network of CBOs, youth associations and community activists and has provided them with the opportunities to enhance their knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding disaster management and preparedness.

For the relief and rehabilitation of effected communities DDF had implemented projects funded by UNFAO, UNICEF, WFP, IRC, MERCY CORPS, PAKISTAN ARMY and EDUCATION DEPARTMENT KP. In recent floods 2010-2011 and IDPs crises 2009, DDF has implemented various relief projects in Swat, Peshawar and Mardan Districts that includes, NFI’s distributions project, Primary health services and provision of basic medicine, education enrollment data survey and primary education program for flood effected communities and IDPs effected from conflict and crises.

Since DDF establishment it has implemented Emergency and Rehabilitation Primary School Education Program in partnership with Government Education Department, UNICEF, and communities of district Mansehra in (KPK) of Pakistan and Muzaffarabad, in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The interventions included: access to education through community mobilization; and improvement of physical infrastructure of the schools by providing tents and supplies along with construction of transitional shelters for 14 schools and capacity building of the stake-holders achieved the planned results and contributed towards the long term goals of DDF. Similarly, livelihood program was implemented in collaboration with Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) of the United Nations, World Food Program (WFP) and the Government Agriculture and Livestock Departments in districts Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla and Kohistan of KPK and Muzaffarabad in AJK. Altogether, 16 Union Councils were targeted for the rehabilitation of livestock and agriculture sector. DDF has successfully implemented projects in various programmatic areas such as; Shelter, Wash, Livelihood, Education, Construction, Research, Training and Capacity Building, Health and Feeding Programs. The core strategies to implement the program included enhancing the skills of stakeholders and a sense of self-reliance to ensure the sustainability of the interventions to achieve the long-term goals.

DDF is well-versed and have strong context with different segments of the communities, Government Department Officials and other stakeholders in these districts. The programs are implemented by a team of professionals to ensure the desired results. In order to make the program result-oriented, capacity building and trainings of the staff has been the core of our management policy. Similarly, transparency in the management and finance system is ensured by office of internal over sight of DDF and by taking the audits on regular basis.
