Seminar & Panel Discussion

The MPhil Scholars of Home Economics session 2025-26 and the Department of Human Development and Family Studies successfully organized a full-day Seminar and Panel Discussion on Gender and Social Justice, Climate Change, and Digital Literacy.
We were honored to have Advocate Khasmala Asif, Advocate Umer Khan, and Advocate Mr. Talah as distinguished guest speakers. The event was graced by the respected Principal, Dr. Shazia Shah, as the Chief Guest.
The session was well-organized, highly informative, and concluded with active participation and appreciation from all attendees.

The College of Home Economics proudly organized a laptop distribution ceremony under the Prime Ministerโs Youth Laptop Scheme to recognize and encourage academic excellence among its students.
The Principal, Prof. Shazia Shah, along with the esteemed faculty members, distributed laptops among the deserving and selected students. The ceremony was held to appreciate the hard work, dedication, and outstanding achievements of the recipients.
The focal person, Dr. Mussarat, and Dr. Sidra Ali ensured the smooth and transparent ex*****on of the scheme.
The event concluded on a positive note, reflecting the collegeโs dedication to nurturing talent and promoting educational advancement.

A two-day training workshop titled โUse of Artificial Intelligence in Teaching and Researchโ was successfully held from January 28 to January 29, 2026, at the University of Peshawar under the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Program โ Batch III, organized by the Centre for Human Resource Career Development (CHRCD).
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Fatima-tuz-Zahra as the Resource Person and conducted under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Naeem Butt, Director CHRCD. The event aimed to equip faculty members with contemporary knowledge and practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in academic teaching and research.
The Principal, Prof Dr. Shazia Shah College of Home Economics, actively participated in the workshop, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic innovation, faculty development, and the integration of emerging technologies in higher education. Her participation reflected the Collegeโs vision to enhance teaching methodologies and promote research excellence through modern technological tools.
The concluding session was attended by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and Prof. Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Khan, who highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence and Information Technology in research, academia, and daily life. Certificates were distributed among the participants, who showed great enthusiasm and commitment to professional development and innovation in teaching and research.

The College of Home Economics successfully organized a Two-Day Workshop on โAI for Academic Research, Writing, and Institutional Growthโ for MPhil/PhD scholars and teaching faculty on 28thโ29th January 2026.
The workshop was led by Chief Organizer Prof. Dr. Shazia Ghulam Muhammad and coordinated by Organizers Dr. Rabia Chishti and Ms. Madiha Zeb.
Expert sessions were conducted by Dr. Suleman Amin, who shared valuable insights on the use of AI in Research.
On Day 2, certificates were awarded to participants and organizers upon successful completion. The Principal also presented a Certificate of Acknowledgment and a souvenir to Dr. Suleman Amin in appreciation of his contribution.

M.Phil. Thesis Examination
Ms Ayesha Sayed (Food & Nutrition Sciences scholar) completed her M.Phil. research under the supervision of Dr. Fazia Ghaffar, Department of Food & Nutrition Sciences, CHE, UOP. The viva voce and thesis presentation were held on 13th January, 2026. The title of her study was โThe Efficacy of the Personalized Diets on the Glycemic Regulation and Health Status of Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The external examiner was Dr. Abbas Khan, Department of Public Health & Human Nutrition, University of Haripur, Hazara. Principal College of Home Economics, UOP, Prof. Dr Shazia Ghualm Muhammad convened and supervised the examination. Personalized nutrition and dietary counselling are a cornerstone in the effective management of Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, addressing individual patientsโ unique nutritional, physiological, lifestyle, and medical needs. Her study successfully formulated tailored dietary strategies against the conventional and generic guidelines, being crucial for achieving better glycemic control, reducing the risk of complications, and improving the overall quality of life of T1DM patients. Ms Ayeshaโs study identified that "one diet does not fit all" in the area of Clinical Nutrition through a flexible, evidence-based framework for optimal T1DM management

*M.Phil. Thesis Examination*
The M.Phil. examination and thesis presentation of Ms Saba Sharif (Scholar of Food & Nutrition Sciences) was held on 13th January 2026. The title of her research was โNutritional Composition, Antioxidant, Antimicrobial, Cytotoxic and Antitumor Potentials of Encapsulated Silver Nanoparticles Synthesized from Carissa Macrocarpa: An In Vitro Comparative Studyโ carried out under the supervision of Dr. Fazia Ghaffar, Department of Food & Nutrition Sciences, CHE, UOP. The external examiner was Dr. Abbas Khan, Department of Public Health & Human Nutrition, University of Haripur, Hazara. Prof. Dr Shazia Ghualm Muhammad convened and supervised the examination. The study is expected to be the first reported study from Pakistan emphasizing the novel role of encapsulation on the nutritional, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer potential of _Carissa Macrocarpa_ with promising avenues in the areas of nutrition sciences, nutraceuticals, and value-added food product development. The study was highly appreciated by the participants of the formal presentation.

Ms Hira Ayub (Food & Nutrition Sciences scholar) completed her M.Phil. research under the supervision of Dr. Fazia Ghaffar. The title of her study was โThe Effects of Micronutrient Deficiencies on Glycemic Regulation and Health Outcomes among Children and Adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus. The examiner was Dr. Abbas Khan, Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health & Human Nutrition at the University of Haripur, Hazara. The examination was conducted under the dynamic leadership of Prof. Dr Shazia Ghulam Muhammad, Principal, College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar, on 13th January, 2026. The presentation was attended by faculty of the College, postgraduate and undergraduate students of the department. The study addressed the neglected area of T1DM and was appreciated by the participants. Ms Hira Ayub also presented a part of her work and secured first position in the poster presentation at the 3rd International PNDS conference.

On 7 January 2026, Students and faculty of College Of Home Economics, UOP actively attended BizNest Phase III at Cecos University, where students enthusiastically showcased their entrepreneurial projects and startup ideas.
The event organized by Management Dept, Cecos University headed by Dr. Aleem featured a vibrant display of food stalls, innovative business models, and creative startup concepts, reflecting the studentsโ passion for entrepreneurship and practical learning.
The event was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Cecos University, marking the significance of fostering innovation and entrepreneurial spirit among youth.
Faculty members and students participated wholeheartedly under the dynamic leadership of Principal Prof. Dr. Shazia Shah, whose vision continues to inspire students to explore creativity, innovation, and enterprise.
