Today, inshaAllah ta’ala, we will be discussing five actions that, by doing them, we can gain rewards equal to the reward of Hajj.
Allahu Akbar.
Look how beautiful our deen is, and how generous Allah عز وجل is.
First:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said that whoever performs wudhu properly and then goes to the masjid to perform an obligatory prayer - Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha - will receive the reward of a person who went for Hajj wearing ihram.
Allahu Akbar.
Just by making proper wudhu and going to the masjid to perform the five daily salawat, a person can gain the reward of Hajj many times every single day.
If you prayed all five prayers in the masjid, that is five rewards of Hajj in one day.
If you prayed four, then four rewards of Hajj.
If you prayed three, then three rewards of Hajj.
And we all know how huge and عظیم the reward of Hajj is.
So this is one of the simplest actions available to every single one of us daily.
Second:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ told us that whoever prays Fajr in congregation, then remains seated remembering Allah until the sun rises, and afterward prays two rak’ahs i.e. Salatul Ishraq and Salatul Duha, will receive the reward of a complete Hajj and Umrah.
And the Prophet ﷺ repeated:
“Complete, complete, complete.”
Allahu Akbar.
Imagine this.
You pray Fajr in jamaah.
You remain in your place making adhkar.
You read Qur’an.
You remember Allah.
You attend a small halaqah.
You avoid dunya talk.
Then after sunrise and after the prohibited time passes, you pray two rak’ahs known as Salatul Ishraq or Salatul Duha.
And Allah grants you the reward of a complete Hajj and Umrah.
SubhanAllah.
All of this may only take around 45 minutes to one hour.
Third:
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“An Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj.”
And in another narration:
“Equal to Hajj with me.”
Allahu Akbar.
Imagine earning the reward of Hajj with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ simply by performing Umrah during Ramadan.
What an incredible blessing and honor.
Fourth:
Going to the masjid to teach something good or to learn something good.
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
“Whoever goes to the masjid not desiring except to learn good or teach good will have the reward of a complete Hajj.”
SubhanAllah.
Just attending a lecture…
Attending a halaqah…
Learning something that increases your love for Allah…
Learning something that strengthens your iman…
Learning something that brings you closer to Allah سبحانه وتعالى…
The teacher and the student both receive the reward of a complete Hajj.
Look at the mercy and generosity of Allah عز وجل.
Now listen to the fifth one - and perhaps the easiest of all.
The poor companions came to the Prophet ﷺ and said:
“O Messenger of Allah, the wealthy people are taking all the rewards. They perform Hajj, they give charity, they spend in the cause of Allah.”
Notice how the Sahabah were always thinking about how to gain more reward.
So the Prophet ﷺ said:
“Shall I teach you something by which you can catch up with those ahead of you?”
They said:
“Yes, O Messenger of Allah.”
He ﷺ said:
“After every prayer, say:
SubhanAllah 33 times,
Alhamdulillah 33 times,
Allahu Akbar 33 times.”
Allahu Akbar.
Just two or three minutes after every salah.
And in another narration, if a person finishes by saying:
“La ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulk wa lahul hamd wa huwa ala kulli shay’in qadeer,”
then all his minor sins are forgiven even if they were as much as the foam of the sea.
My dear brothers and sisters, these are five simple actions through which Allah grants rewards equal to Hajj and Umrah.
But this does not mean that the obligation of Hajj is removed from someone who is physically and financially capable.
Hajj remains obligatory.
These are extra rewards from the generosity of Allah سبحانه وتعالى.
Now somebody might say:
“How is that fair? Someone spends thousands of dollars, travels, struggles through Hajj, and another person simply sits in a halaqah or goes to the masjid and gets the same reward?”
SubhanAllah.
Imagine you hired a worker who labored for you for ten hours, and afterward you paid him $200 for his hard work.
Then a poor man came asking for help because he had not eaten for days.
So you also gave him $200.
Does that reduce the first man’s salary?
Does it take anything away from him?
Not at all.
Allah سبحانه وتعالى is the Most Generous.
He gives rewards to whomever He wills.
Look how many rewards of Hajj a person can earn every single day.
If I go to the masjid five times daily, that could be five rewards of Hajj.
If I remain after Fajr until sunrise, that is another reward of Hajj and Umrah.
If I make the tasbeeh after every salah, that is more reward.
If I attend a halaqah or Islamic class, that is another reward.
SubhanAllah.
Some people may earn twelve rewards of Hajj in one day.
Some may earn six.
Some may earn four.
But do not let a single day pass without earning at least one reward of Hajj.
And for our sisters who may not always be able to go to the masjid, Allah is Most Just.
If you do these acts sincerely at home, Allah سبحانه وتعالى will never deprive you of reward.
Allah said:
“Whoever does good, whether male or female…”
May Allah سبحانه وتعالى grant us the tawfiq to earn these rewards consistently, accept all our deeds, forgive our sins, and allow us to visit His sacred House. Ameen.
