UAJK Faculty Hold Meeting with OGDCL Officials on Academic–Industry Collaboration
Islamabad: On 05 January 2026, faculty members of the Institute of Geology, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), Muzaffarabad, Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mughal and Dr. Jahanzeb Khan, held a meeting at OGDCL House, Islamabad, with Mr. Shamshad Akhter, Deputy Chief Geologist, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) and Dr.Tariq Mehmood.
The meeting focused on strengthening academic–industry collaboration, particularly in the areas of joint student research projects, internship opportunities, and professional training programs. The importance of providing hands-on industrial exposure to geology students to enhance their technical competencies and employability was emphasized.
Both sides expressed interest in developing structured collaboration mechanisms to benefit students, faculty, and the petroleum and mineral industry. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to explore future cooperation for capacity building and workforce development.

UAJK Faculty Participate in National Mineral Policy Workshop 2025 Islamabad: Faculty members of the Institute of Geology, University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK), Muzaffarabad, Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mughal and Dr. Raja Jahanzeb Khan, participated in the Stakeholders’ Consultative Workshop on the Draft National Mineral Development Policy 2025 held on 05 January 2025 at the OGDCL Head Office, Islamabad.
The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division), Government of Pakistan, brought together key stakeholders to discuss sustainable mineral development and policy reforms. UAJK faculty highlighted the importance of academic–industry collaboration, student employment, internships, and professional training. It was shared that mineral companies will be required to create job positions for Geologists and Mining Engineers, with students given preference for internships and training.
The workshop concluded with a commitment to incorporate stakeholder input to strengthen Pakistan’s mineral sector.
