Our 2nd Semester Geology students were on their geological field visit, during which they spent one day at the Tunneling Institute of Pakistan under the supervision of Dr. Yasir Sarfraz and Dr. Amir Shahzad. During the visit, students were briefed on the geological aspects of tunneling and the role of geology in underground construction projects.

The Institute of Geology, University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJK), Muzaffarabad, successfully conducted Field Training Camp 2026 in collaboration with the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Hazara University, Mansehra. This field camp not only provided valuable hands-on learning opportunities for students but also strengthened academic ties between the two institutions.
As a significant outcome of this collaboration, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been initiated between Hazara University, Mansehra and the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Muzaffarabad. The MoU will pave the way for long-term cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including joint research initiatives, faculty exchange programs, academic and professional development activities, and the sharing of scientific expertise and resources.
This partnership reflects the commitment of both universities to advancing excellence in Earth and Environmental Sciences through collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange.

🌍 Geological Field Training Camp 2026 ⛏️

The Geological Field Training Camp, conducted by the Institute of Geology, University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (UAJK) for many years, has become a unique and prestigious platform for geology students from universities across Pakistan. It provides a rare opportunity for young geologists to move beyond the classroom and gain hands-on experience in the field, fostering both technical skills and professional collaboration.
This year, a 14-day Geological Field Training Camp was successfully organized by the Institute of Geology, University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir in collaboration with the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Hazara University, Mansehra, KPK.

📚 Training Modules Covered:
✅ Geological & Structural Mapping
Field mapping, structural analysis, and geological interpretation.
✅ Engineering Geology
Landslide mapping, cross-section measurement, and rock mass classification.
✅ Petrology, Mineralogy & Sedimentology
Study of igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rock units of the Hazara-Kashmir Syntaxis (HKS), mineral assemblages, and sedimentary structures.
✅ Geophysical Surveys
Practical training on Gravimeter, Magnetometer, Electrical Resistivity Survey (ERS), and Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) techniques.

Over the years, this camp has established itself as a hallmark event for geological education in Pakistan, bringing together students from diverse institutions to learn, explore, and experience the fascinating geology of the region firsthand.

Hopefully, the Institute will continue this legacy in the years to come and further expand this platform, enabling even more young geologists from across Pakistan to benefit from this exceptional field-learning experience.

We are delighted to congratulate Sahil Khan Khattak on the successful completion of his Summer Internship at Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), one of Pakistan’s premier exploration and production companies. 👏🎉
