Department of Electrical Engineering, UAJK warmly welcomes Dr. Khalid Khawaja (Assistant Prof.) on rejoining the department after his postdoctoral research.
Dr. Khalid Khawaja worked as a postdoctoral researcher for two years at the DigiPES Lab, Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands, under the supervision of Prof. Phuong Nguyen. He contributed to the ORKEST project, where his research group developed new optimization schemes for connecting more load and renewable energy resources to congested power networks.
Dr. Khalid also completed several University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) certification training courses from TU Eindhoven. These trainings are required for university professors to teach in the Netherlands. These included: (i) Foundation (ii) Designing Courses & Projects (iii) Supervising Students (iv) Teaching Skills (v) Assessment (vi) Evaluation (vii) Introduction to Challenge based learning (CBL) (viii) CBL masterclass for instructors.
In addition to teaching training, he also attended courses focused on research and presentation skills, including: (i) Good Practices in Research Software Development (ii) Giving an audience focused presentation (iii) Powerful communication and voice techniques (iv) How to make educational videos?
Dr. Khalid was also awarded the competitive EuroTech funding for postdocs and professors, through which he worked as a visiting researcher for one month at the Technical University of Munich, Germany, one of the country’s top-ranked universities. He also won the Best Pitch Award from the IEEE Student Branch Eindhoven and presented his research at several international conferences in Italy, UAE, Switzerland, and Germany.
We are confident that the knowledge and experience Dr. Khalid brings with him will benefit not only the Department but also the University.

The Department of Electrical Engineering heartily congratulates to Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam (SDO, Electricity Department Muzaffarabad) on successfully defended his research work and completed his MS in Electrical Engineering.
On 25th February 2025, an open defense of the M.S. Scholar Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam was held at the Department of Electrical Engineering, UAJ&K. Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam completed his research work under the supervision of Dr. Sheeraz Iqbal (currently, Post Doctoral Fellow at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, Dhahran, KSA) and Co-Supervision of Dr. Syed. Basit Ali Bukhari ( HoD Electrical Engineering Department, UAJ& K). MS Scholar successfully defended his thesis on " DATA DRIVEN STRATEGIES FOR FAULT DETECTION AND CLASSIFICATION IN LCC HVDC SYSTEMS". The defense was conducted under the supervision of Engr. Dr. Syed Basit Ali Bukhari, Dr Ausnain Naveed, Dr Muhammad Ali and External Examiner Dr. Muhammad Asghar Khattak, Assistant Professor at Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Comsats University, Abbotabad, Pakistan.
The defense ceremony, held at the Department of Electrical Engineering, UAJ&K, was attended by faculty members, fellow students, and other stakeholders. During the defense, Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam demonstrated a deep understanding of the subject matter and effectively answered questions from the defense committee, showcasing his expertise in the field of fault detection and classification in LCC HVDC systems.
Prof. Dr. Saadat Hanif Dar, the Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, congratulated Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam on his successful defense and commended him for his dedication and hard work. He also expressed his appreciation to Dr. Sheeraz Iqbal and Dr. Syed Basit Ali Bukhari for their guidance and support as the thesis supervisor, and Dr. Muhammad Ashgar Khattak for his valuable input as the external Examiner .
The successful defense of Engr. Muhammad Farooq Azam 's thesis is a significant achievement for the Department of Electrical Engineering and highlights the university's commitment to promoting research excellence in the field of Power Systems.
