KAUST (King Abdullah University of Science and Technology)
کے Applications دوبارہ اوپن ہو رہے ہیں
( 1st October is Application deadline)، اس لیے یہ پوسٹ کو جو میں نے کچھ مہینے پہلے بھی کی تھی، آج پھر کر رہا ہوں۔
کاوسٹ ایک عالمی معیار کی گریجویٹ سطح کی تحقیقی یونیورسٹی ہے جو سعودی عرب کے شہر تھُوَل (Thuwal, Jeddah) میں، بحیرۂ احمر کے کنارے واقع ہے۔ یہ یونیورسٹی اپنی جدید تحقیق، جدید ترین سہولیات، فراخدلانہ اسکالرشپس، اور متنوع بین الاقوامی کمیونٹی کی وجہ سے جانی جاتی ہے۔
کاوسٹ میں تقریباً 70 فیصد طلبہ بین الاقوامی ہیں جو 120 مختلف ممالک سے تعلق رکھتے ہیں۔ اس سے آپ کو کاوسٹ کے تنوع کا اندازہ ہو جائے گا۔
KAUST
میں پاکستانی students بہت کم ہیں۔ KAUST میں پاکستان سے صرف 10-15 MS اور PhD students ہیں.
اتنی کم تعداد کی شاید دو وجوہات ہیں:
1. سلیکشن criteria تھوڑا سخت ہے۔
2. پاکستانی students زیادہ تر apply نہیں کرتے۔
KAUST's selection criteria for Pakistani students is slightly different from that for other applicants. The following categories of Pakistani students are generally selected:
1. Students with a high GPA – at KAUST, GPA is considered even more important than publications.
2. Students with a strong research profile (i.e., a good number of publications), even if their GPA is not very high.
3. Students who have completed their BS or MS from an international university.
4. Pakistani students who have previously done an internship at KAUST.

اگر آپ ابھی BS یا MS کر رہے ہیں تو آپ کو KAUST کی scholarship حاصل کرنے کے لیے کیا کرنا چاہیے؟
کاوسٹ کے ہر ڈیپارٹمنٹ میں مختلف ریسرچ گروپس کام کر رہے ہیں، اور ہر ریسرچ گروپ میں faculty، postdocs، PhD، MS، اور internship والے visiting students ہوتے ہیں۔
سب سے پہلے اپنے interest کے مطابق research group کی نشاندہی کریں اور اس گروپ میں جاری research topic کے بارے میں پڑھنا شروع کریں۔ اس گروپ کو جو professor lead کر رہا ہے، بہتر ہے کہ ان کے research papers پڑھ لیں اور اگر آپ کو اچھا خاصا اس research group کے بارے میں پتہ چل جائے تو پھر apply کرنے سے پہلے professor سے acceptance لے لیں (اگرچہ یہ ضروری نہیں ہے)؛ ایکسیپٹنس ملنے سے بہت سی چیزیں آسان ہو جاتی ہیں۔
اگر آپ نے ابھی تک اپنے BS یا MS کا thesis topic select نہیں کیا ہے تو پہلے ان research groups کو visit کریں اور پھر ان کے مطابق اپنا topic select کریں؛ اس طرح شروع سے آپ کی research interest ان research group کے ساتھ match ہوجائے گی اور professor سے acceptance لینے میں آسانی ہوگی.
کوشش کریں کہ اپنے thesis پر یا ریسرچ گروپ کے ریسرچ کے مطابق کچھ پیپرز پبلیش کریں۔ اس کے علاوہ GPA کی اہمیت کو بھی نظر انداز نہ کریں اور کوشش کریں کہ زیادہ سے زیادہ GPA حاصل کریں۔ اور اگر آپ کی BS اور MS کی تکمیل میں ابھی وقت ہے تو KAUST internship کے لیے لازماً apply کریں، کیونکہ KAUST میں internship کے بعد MS یا PhD کی scholarship آسانی سے مل جاتی ہے۔ Apply کرنے سے پہلے IELTS بھی دے دیں۔ کہنے کا مطلب یہ ہے کہ apply کرنے سے پہلے اپنے profile کو تھوڑا strong کریں۔

Note: SOP, CV, and 3 recommendation letters are important.
