Eratosthenes was a world-famous mathematician known for his unbelievable and exact calculation. He was the only mathematician who put efforts to calculate the 𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙝’𝙨 𝙘𝙞𝙧𝙘𝙪𝙢𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 and calculated the Earth’s axis tilt. Both his calculations are exact, and so he became famous worldwide.
He multiplied this distance by 50( Alexandria and Syene) to get 40,250 kilometers .
Today, most scientists set the earth's circumference at 40,096 kilometers. This gives Eratosthenes' estimate less than a one percent error, an excellent approximation of the earth's circumference.
But What a efforts 2200 years ago by using just stick and brain 🤔...
