_disection of_frog
Dissecting a frog is a common biology lab activity used to study anatomy. Below is a step-by-step guide for performing a frog dissection.
Frog Dissection Procedure:
1. Preparation: Wear gloves and goggles. Place the frog on its back in the dissecting tray.
2. Pin the Frog: Pin the limbs to secure the frog in place.
3. Initial Incision: Make a shallow cut below the frog’s sternum up to its chin, then horizontally across the top and bottom of the incision.
4. Expose the Muscles: Peel back the skin and pin it, then make a similar cut through the muscles to reveal internal organs.
5. Observe Organs: Examine the liver, heart, lungs, stomach, intestines, kidneys, and reproductive organs.
6. Clean Up: Remove pins, dispose of the specimen properly, and clean the tools.
Observation:
External Features: The frog has a smooth, moist skin, four limbs, and a prominent mouth.
Internal Organs:
Liver: Large, brown, and three-lobed.
Heart: Triangular and located between the lungs, with three chambers.
Lungs: Small and spongy, found on either side of the heart.

Stomach: A large, J-shaped organ connected to the intestines.
Intestines: Long and coiled, leading to the cloaca.
Kidneys: Long, flat, dark structures along the back.
Reproductive Organs:
Males: Te**es near the kidneys.
Females: Ovaries with eggs and oviducts.
Result:
The frog’s anatomy closely resembles that of other vertebrates, highlighting similarities in organ structure and systems (digestive, circulatory, respiratory, and reproductive). This provides insight into basic vertebrate physiology.
