حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ کا یہ فرمان مشعل راہ ہے:
آپ اپنے ایک ساتھی کے ساتھ جا رہے تھے کہ آپ نے دیکھا کہ ایک بوڑھا شخص ایک کم عمر سے پڑھ رہا ہے تو ساتھی بولے کہ یہ دیکھیے اس بوڑھے کو اس عمر میں پڑھنے کی لت پڑھ گئی ہے اس پر حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا :
"جہالت کی موت سے بہتر ہے کہ کچھ علم دین حاصل کرکے اس دنیا سے جاؤ؟“
